My wife and I will be applying for the visa this September. Do we need to have the 500,000 baht x2? Or can we have a joint account with only 500,000 baht in it? In fact, we'll have more than 500,000. We'll have about 700,000.
But It Works?
Answer summary
The discussion centers around the financial requirements for obtaining a Thai visa for a couple, with emphasis on whether each individual needs to demonstrate having 500,000 baht or if they can combine their funds in a joint account for the visa application. Responses indicate that regulations vary by consular office, with some requiring individuals to show independent funds while others may allow a joint account meeting the combined amount of 1 million baht. Furthermore, there are mentions of applying through different agencies and the importance of showing sufficient funds for long-term living.

Send an email to the Brazilian embassy, they usually reply pretty fast. The last time I checked, it was mandatory to have 1 million baht for two people, and that was back in February. So honestly, if you don’t have the amount, it might be better to apply somewhere else.
It depends on the consular office you’re applying to.
Some are quite strict and will require you to both have 500k independently (w/o a joint account) or combined as 1m in a joint account.
Others may be fine with one getting the visa and the other acting as the dependant and sponsoring the other but some offices will not accept sponsorship letters for adults.
You’d both need to have the 500k if one applicant needs to have 500k its to prove that you can fund your life for the 5yrs. What you can do is apply separately. Not through the same agency or Visa office. Do one first, you have 60 days free in the country with an extension of 30 so can always do the second one as a dependent. All DTV holders can apply for their spouses and kids
500k baht is not going to fund anyone's life for 5 years. It's just to show you have access to funds, should the need arise (accidents or whatever). Those applying under Workation will show income to fund their stay as part of their application. Those applying under Soft Power can also be asked to show how they will fund there stay.
in which case you should both apply for the DTV separately using the Workation option as that is the only way to work remotely legally from inside Thailand. That means the spouse option is not available to you as it doesn't confer that right.
My wife applied as main applicant with 500k then I applied as her dependant and just uploaded the same bank account without questions. I think each embassy may be different though. Mine was in laos
