Hi guys I just asked chat GPT about sending money to a thai account using Wise and show up as an international transfer for a long term visa and it says you can't, I'm sure someone on here posted that it can say international transfer could someone please confirm
A warning to anyone using Wise or thinking of Wise. Their wonderful AI assistant just told me a flat out lie to get me to deposit money. My account was restricted about a week ago. They held my money and did not transmit in. Then they returned it. So today I go to wise to transfer about 85k baht. I see no notice of restriction. So to double check I open chat and ask is my account restricted. No says the AI assitant, I have checked and there is no restriction. So I do the transfer. Then it flashes up your account is restricted. They have taken the money out of the bank but not sending it. So I ask to speak to a human. Their response, hard luck. The AI assistant got it wrong we can not tell you how long we will hold your money or when we will send it on. In the space of a week thats nearly 200000 baht they have grabbed. Think how many others they are doing it to and earning interest on short term deposits. I suggest everybody switches to Remitly or something else. You simply cannot trust Wise anymore. Even a request to find out how long a restriction lasts is met with a shrug.....its another team, might be ten days, might be weeks.
If you can't open a bank account or had to close it, and you have cash, then you can deposit your cash to TrueMoney at any True or Dtac or 7eleven shop, then you can:
- Pay via scan (PromptPay, TrueMoney) anywhere in Thailand (including individuals) with few limits
- Get a virtual MasterCard that you can use to pay online (e.g. App Store bills, AirBnB bills, etc)
- Transfer it to your True or Dtac balance to pay your mobile bills (it also works to pay your App Store bills via phone number)
- Transfer to a foreign bank account (EUR, USD, etc) via Swift
You just have to download the TrueMoney app and do a KYC (identity verification) and that's it
Hi everyone can you transfer the money for Visa 800,000 baht? Can I use Wise? If so how do you do because I believe it has to be an international transfer? I know this is not a Visa related but maybe someone can help.
Just want to know if any expats from the UK use Wise and if they do, do they have trouble with the money coming instantly or do they usually have to wait for a few hours or even the next day?
- you can now order a wise card sent to you in thailand
- they are now fixing / adding Scan pay - Prompt Pay to wise
However in may you can NOT use wise card to withdraw cash from ATM anymore inside thailand
Regulatory changes made by Bank of Thailand
I suggest reading the link to become familiar with the changes
From my understanding this is for accounts registered in thailand accounts registered else where may not be affected this will be interesting to see either way
