True Money on DTV

Just to confirm for those wondering. It is possible to unlock a full True Money account with your dtv. You need to choose non immigrant non work visa in the options for full account documents, take a photo of your printed dtv (that’s the only way to do it), and a photo of your last entry stamp. Then submit this and wait a couple of days. You will get approved.
Answer summary
You can unlock a full True Money account using a DTV visa by selecting the non-immigrant non-work visa option and submitting a photo of your printed DTV and your last entry stamp. Approval takes a few days. However, you need to re-verify and submit a new photo every time your visa entry stamp expires, which may cause temporary lockouts. Alternatives like Moreta Pay and DeepPocket are mentioned as convenient options for transactions.

Useful walkthrough. One caveat I’d add: approval paths and document checks still vary by app version and case, so treat “select non-immigrant / non-work, upload DTV + latest stamp” as the usual path, not a guarantee. Keep screenshots of what you submitted and don’t rebuild the file mid-review unless they ask. Banking on a DTV is doable — consistency beats clever workarounds.

But you can not transfer money into True from an international bank account. Topping up at

you can top up 20k in 1 go using the True money booths at True shops. Its a hassle sure, but better than 2k at 7-11.

but can you top up using a card or cash only? If card it’s not too bad

Alone_in_CM26 so I can’t see the point, if I need to get cash out I may as well just use cash.

Moreta was great as could top up using a card or Apple Pay but they had to switch off personal QR’s

Using TrueMoney or any other app storing your currency is giving those companies an interest-free loan. So, why do it.

No it isn't.

It's possible to get basic unlock.

Go look at the investment products, etc etc. Still lots of it Thai nationals only

Yeah all great, but then the VISA Debit Card doesn't work on their app, so it's useless

Alone_in_CM26 or to those using it,..

@Bryan *******
You can’t. One requirement is your entry stamp that says DTV

@Bryan *******
you will need a local Thai number for a verification code, and upload your passport. If you have that now, you can set up before. For unlocking a full account, you also need a visa and entry stamp page.

Yes 50,000baht balance limit . Its the best I’ve been using it for 4 years . I send money international transfer from Uk bank to thai bank then she sends me the funds to my truemoney which i can spend . Only bad side is you can’t withdraw money you can only spend it

Moreta Pay has been the best option I’ve seen for DTV Visa. Yes, right now it’s Business QR codes only, Personal QR is back in development after a Thai law change, they did 2 rounds of Beta testing and Passed. I was a Beta tester. You can link your home country bank accounts and all transfers over $250 USD are free. Been using it for over a year. Of course I still have Thai Bahts available when it’s not a Business QR, but maybe 60-70% of the time success it pretty good vs exchang rate veriables. Tops, Lotus, Big C, Home Pro, most restaurants, pharmacies, etc, no problem… Even success about 45% of the time at night markets

Important Update: ThaiQR Payments Temporarily Suspended

Hi there,

Unfortunately, this morning we received notice from local regulators, our licensed payment service provider partners, and local banking partners that Moreta is required to temporarily suspend ThaiQR payment services once again.

Our team is actively working with our partners and regulators to restore service as quickly as possible. We will notify all affected users by email as soon as ThaiQR payments are available again.

Please note that this suspension currently does not impact Canadian or United States passport holders, who will continue to have access to ThaiQR payment services as normal.

If you would like to withdraw your balance, please contact our customer support team. We will assist with the withdrawal process and reimburse any fees incurred as part of the withdrawal.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and the inconvenience it may cause. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.

If you have any questions, visit our Help Center or contact Moreta Support

– The Moreta team

HandyBison9267 I signed up back in April/May. it only worked for like 3 weeks or so. they keep suspending the service in Thailand all the time.

I think only Americans and Canadians have the service uninterrupted.

The Fees are high and service is sh*t.

Also, a lot of market vendors sell using their personal QR. So cannot use it reliably on all shops. you can already use your card in
****
, lotus, restaurants, massage shops, ...

So what's the point of paying top up fees + conversion fees + spending fees on this stupid unreliable app if it doesn't support personal QRs???

Truemoney is the most reliable option for now, I wish they can give us a way to top up with a foreign card or transfer from abroad.

Still seems better to use DeepPocket app for QR prompt payments (where I can top-up with debit / credit card)

the top up fee is too high though. 4.5% for international cards. If this is the case, you can save more by paying the ATM withdrawal fee. I only use DeepPocket in emergency, like I runout of cash and I need to buy food at a night market,
Štěpán *******
Štěpán *******
ArticulateOstrich8075 alternatively you can top-up via Lotus / BigC counters for only 2%, just not sure if only via cash or you can also use bank card there.

Should be also possible via six different Thai banks ATMs (BBL, KBANK, KTB, TTB, SCB, BAY) via your foreign bank card, also only 2% top-up fee.
Articulate***********
Articulate***********
if you do the math, for THB10K for instance (if we are talking about big amount like this), the top up fee with 4.5% top up fee, that is THB450. In this regard, withdrawing cash at an ATM with THB250, will save you more. You can't to up via Thai bank ATM. If you choose to top you at Lotus, you top up with cash with a minimal fee of THB10. Very inconvenient. Cut the story short, i use TrueMoney, more convenient, you can top up for free at any 7-11. I would usually withdraw 20k per transaction at an ATM, so that is a single THB250. no other fees whatsoever. Like I said I would only top up my DeepPocket, 1K at a time in times of emergency.
Štěpán *******
Štěpán *******
ArticulateOstrich8075 yes, top-up fee 4,5% is quite high, but good to have it for emergency small payments e.g. street food, only one where I can pay to personal Thai QR. I use Trading 212 debit card for top-up, where are exchange rates during business days (better than Wise) + yet get 1,5% cashback to chosen stock. (e.g. my favourite Bershire Hathaway stock)

Withdraw of cash is also not free (or you need to have very good Thai friend), with International cards it cost now already at least 250 THB with Visa cards or even 350 THB with MasterCard cards + exchange rate fee depending on your card and home bank.

yes i have it for a few years now… but not using it much… you can only top up with cash which makes it pretty stupid… 3000 baht limit at 7-11 for the top up. but only if that shop hasnt reached its daily limit which is wild… you can add more at a TRUE shop so… but again: cash 👎

better than carrying cash around that can be lost and it's good to pay for small things at markets or vendors, they usually don't have change for anything bigger than 100.

baht atm fee every time… to always have small notes for the market you just need to make sure that you always use your 1000 notes in 7-11 and other big shops and restaurants. you will end up with a big stack of 100s…

Yes. Also, they will prompt you to reverify and submit photo again on the day your visa entry stamp expires. During the re-verification period (few days) you will be locked out of TrueMoney. It gets a bit annoying.

OrangeQuince4488 you can do it sooner if you get a newer stamp before that date. I just send them a new stamp when I get it and don’t have to worry.
