Thanks in advance for helpful advice. I want to spend < 180 days a year in Phuket and I’m looking for recommendations on interesting places to spend time outside Thailand that will not break the bank for the other 180 + days.

What specific places/locations would you personally recommend that I may not know or have thought about? So far I’ve focussed on Saigon and Philippines (Cebu, Palawan).

Any bargain places with good food, beaches, nature & bars that are reasonably priced, easily accessible? And yes I have googled and thought about this a lot and am now calling on our collective wisdom.

Thanks! KO

By the way the pic is Moalboal, Cebu Island, Philippines. Nice spot, a bit long to get there…..

Hey friends,

I’ll have to do a visa run within the next 2 weeks. What’s your recommendation to do so on a budget. Do you know companies or groups that facilitate that without headaches?

I’m based in BKK.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

My flight arrives at BKK and by the time I get through customs, it'll be about 11pm. Are there likely to be anywhere open to change money into Baht at the airport to pay for a taxi? Cheers.

Hello Everyone

I am from Bangladesh. I will be traveling Solo to Thailand during the middle of September. During my tour, I will be staying in Chiang Mai for two nights. As I am on a solo budget trip, I will be staying in dorm / hostel bunk beds.

After going through reviews on booking sites and google map, I have shortlisted some budget hostels that are inside or near the old Town

1. U2 & i-smile Hostel ( 150 Baht per night)

2. Me-U hostel (130 baht per night)

3. Oyo-531 Le Light ( 160 Baht per night)

4. 84 Gallery ( 190 baht per night)

5. @Home Hostel ( 180 Baht per night)

If any of you have stayed in any of these hostels, then can you please share your experiences? Would you recommend them? Which one would be best among these?

I am leaning towards Me-U hostel as it's comparatively cheaper than the other options. Any idea how it really is?

I would also appreciate your suggestions for other hostels within the similar price range ( no more than 150-180 baht or 5-6 dollar per night)

My requirements are:

1. The bunk bed must have curtains around it for privacy

2. Not a party hostel. Even if it's a party hostel, the rooms should be quiet enough to sleep comfortably. I will still carry ear plugs though

3. The toilet / Bathroom has to be at least moderately clean. Minimum basic cleanliness should be maintained at least.

4. Convenient location. Within or near old town will be preferred

5. Cherry on top would be if they offer free early check-in if there are empty beds (I will reach Chiang Mai by 8-9 am in the morning)

N.B. I know Stamps is the best and most popular hostel in Chiang Mai but 380 baht per night seems kinda expensive as I can stay 2 nights in less than 380 baht in the other hostels I mentioned above

Thanks in Advance!

Hello Everyone.

I am from Bangladesh. I will be traveling solo to Thailand on a very budget trip in mid September . I will land at the Don Mueang Airport.

I have booked flights through AirAsia. I haven't bought the checked in luggage to save money as I won't be carrying or shopping much. So I am only allowed to carry a 7 kg carry on luggage (Backpack in my case). In my estimation, this 7 kg should be enough for me as I won't be shopping much other than a few chocolates. My shopping shouldn't weigh more than 1kg worth of items.

My carry on backpack is just slightly bigger than a regular laptop backpack. So no more than 30L to 35L size.

## NOW MY QUESTIONS ARE:

* Can anyone tell how much does AirAsia charge for each extra kg if my carry on backpack exceeds 7kg? (*As I won't be having any checked in luggage, will they allow me to carry the extra weight If I pay extra charges? Or should I have throw the extra weight away?)*

* I will also carry a waist bag as a personal item. It's small but spacious enough to carry a powerbank , charger, wallet, passport and a small water bottle. **Will they weigh the waist bag too?

**

*I have attached a sample image of the backpack and waist bag for reference*

Thanks in advance

* No tourist area or less visited by tourists, yet not toooo boring

* Cheaper area (apartment and food - e.g.: apartment rent max. 6000 Baht per month? I know Chiang Mai is very cheap)

* Need strong WiFi (availabe everywhere in Thailand I guess)
