Where did you stay in Hanoi while waiting for your visa ?
There are hundreds of places on the booking platforms but I am looking for a personal recommendation.
Obviously I want to be in or close to the Old Quarter and AC is a must.
I'm budgeting for around 20usd a night but I am getting too many hostels and dorms coming up.
Any hidden gems out there someone can suggest ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking personal recommendations for accommodation in Hanoi, ideally near the Old Quarter, with air conditioning and a budget of around $20 per night. Several commenters suggested specific hotels such as Maya Boutique and Hanoi Fiesta and mentioned the West Lake area for newer apartments with better reviews.
Try Maya Boutique or Hanoi Fiesta. Meant to say, stayed at both in March. For Hanoi Fiesta, try and get an upper floor away from the live bands next door.
i was facing the same issue plus all hotels i found for around 20 usd had bad reviews. i decided to stay near westlake and take a taxi a motorbike taxi to the old quarter. around westlake are quite a few newish apartments for under 20 usd with good reviews
