TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking assistance and advice on how to return to the UK from Thailand after their flights have been cancelled due to ongoing conflicts. They mention difficulties with their travel agency, Kiwi Travel, and express frustration over high flight costs. Various comments offer alternative airlines, suggestions for budget accommodations while waiting, and highlight the broader issue of many travelers being stranded due to the current situation.

I’m repatriating my son, back to the UK from NZ. Getting to SG was easy and the flight from SG to UK with China Eastern was under £280 one-way.

If you cannot find 1 airline out of 122 airlines that fly into Bangkok, you don’t deserve to travel. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️😡

Go and visit the embassy. Rumour has it that those stranded here will get 2000 thb per day per person.

Keep 'ploughing' through Skyscanner

And use the various options through China ...( Although there are no 'reasonable priced' flights back to UK for a week or so

I did see a couple of 'reasonable' routes

Bkk ....Karachi ....Karachi to London via Istanbul....

Also seen a route via Ashgabat

I see the flights via China are 'normal' prices from the 24th March onwards.....

Good luck ....

( I've been scrolling Skyscanner for days....hoping to get back to UK over the next
*****
days ....and those were the only 'reasonable priced' options I could find )

Try looking at flight paths separately. You can go from Bangkok to Istanbul or Addis and then from there to Heathrow with likely only one layover for under 1,000. Turkish airways from Istanbul to London nonstop is $130. Look at sky scanner.

I flew from Europe via Thailand to HK yesterday then Melbourne. I found good airfares 1 way with Vietnam air and Thai air and Qantas from HK to Melbourne. I booked direct with airlines and applied for refund from Emirates which will take some time. Maybe go to Vietnam and fly from there or Malaysia.

Neil Smith Around $ 2,000 BKK - DAD - YVR - LHR. It might be helpful to do a reverse explorer search on google flights. Just put LHR as origin, and the date, no destination. This will show which airlines have direct flights and where they originate. If it's not BKK, a 'positioning flight' might be needed.

There are currently around 1 million stranded passengers. Global air capacity is down. It's going to take weeks to get the rerouting done, and months before it's anything like back to normal.

Don't expect there to be cheap flights for a while. Demand is outstripping supply and will continue to do so until the middle east hubs can reopen, though prices will also be high due to the spike in oil.

I think staying in Thailand is best option financially - they look for a cheaper hotel - if you in Bangkok there is a small family run hotel called Tara Place no pool but clean, reasonable and central - or look for a long term air bnb if you on an island

Today there is a flight from the ME to Stansted, things may be starting to ease travel wise. If not you could try travelling to India then direct to UK or KL may have options. Good luck

We are a couple amongst thousands who are left stranded and need to get back to UK.Like you we have spent hours trying to find flights on line, nobody can help or advise us, we are stuck, we phoned Dial a Flight in London, they were so good. They find some cheaper flights but all taking several stop overs. We know from experience that the longer we wait the higher the prices will go, we had to bite the bullet and get a flight to Birmingham. Sadly we have had to pay £2000 each. Like you we just want to go safely home . Good luck. X

on Wednesday, 18 March 2026:

Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok (BKK) to Taoyuan Airport in Taipei (TPE) to Heathrow Airport in London (LHR)

Price = THB ฿28,000.- Thai Baht ≈ USD $870 US Dollars

of course, when i post this Comment, then there might be a surge in searches on these China Airlines (CI) flights, either this price will be gone and the price skyrockets up, or some will be lucky and snatch and grab this price while it is available

Consider a transit not just in Taiwan, Hong Kong, or elsewhere, but also Mainland China as UK Passports now have free Visa Exemption Entry into Mainland China (as a reserve, backup just in case something else could possibly happen again and the worst case scenario could get stuck somewhere else during transit)

Have also seen Shenzhen Airlines (ZH) with a transit at Bao'an Airport in Shenzhen (SZX) with even cheaper air fare prices....

During Covid I encountered similar problems, my agent finally gave me coupons to rebook, no refund. Id suggest you find a very cheap room away from tourist area or in a hostel and wind away the days by a pool. No flight currently is affordable

PurpleOtter5805 2 or 3 days later and it all changed, the build up of cancelled flight and the sheer number of people left in the dark till the last minute, have caused a terrific build up of people trying to get on planes that probably are already full with passengers who are returning home on aready booked flights before they came to Thailand
