Just came in yesterday with DTV in hand…. Stamped in for 60 days Visa exemption

So this is the 3rd entry on DTV, second entry on new passport.

Last entry I tried to show them the old passport for which the DTV was issued, the officer didn’t want to see it, just stamped me in.

This time they said we give you 60 days, go to Phuket Immigration and ask to transfer DTV visa to new passport. They were nice and even apologetic, but unmoving.

Today I go to Phuket Immigration and try to transfer the DTV to new passport. The captain said no chance we don’t do that.

The tourist advisory guy said maybe go back to airport, ask for a different officer and ask for the stamp to be changed back to DTV, maybe go with a lawyer.

So that’s where I stand so far.

Anyone had this happen?

Next steps?

RESOLVED: OK, I think it’s clear now, and I understand where I went wrong. The Non-O visa is available through the Thai eVisa website, but it’s not labeled as “Non-O”...it only shows up if you select the option to “stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days” under “Retirement.” I had ruled that out because I want to stay longer, and I didn’t realize that you could apply for the correct 90-day non-O visa first, then extend it inside Thailand.

Since I didn’t see a way to apply for Non-O in advance and didn’t want to buy extra health insurance (I already have excellent coverage), I was planning to enter as a tourist and adjust status to non-O. Thanks to your guidance, I now see exactly how to apply for the Non-O in advance and skip that workaround.

Really appreciate everyone’s help. This was very useful! 🙏

ORIGINAL POST: Can someone help me resolve this catch‑22?

I’m a U.S. retiree with a pension and full health insurance. I plan to enter Thailand on a tourist visa (or visa‑exempt entry) and then convert to a Non‑Immigrant O retirement visa from inside Thailand. (EDITED: I'd enter as a tourist because I have excellent health insurance as a federal retiree, but I understand that the documentation is not sufficient to apply for an O visa online, whereas it's not a requirement to show my U.S. health insurance when converting in-country. If any U.S. federal retirees with FEHB coverage have managed to get around this problem, I'm all ears!)

I understand I’ll need 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account to convert to the O visa, but I also keep hearing that banks won’t open accounts for people on tourist visas. So how do you open a bank account before converting to an O visa...or, conversely, how can you convert to O before opening the bank account?

Would love to hear how others successfully handled this.

I have question

Does buying ticket from onwardticket. com

Or similar websitez that give you real flight for 2 days is good for applying for setv evisa

Because in documents that I need to provide there is flight booking confirmation

And evisa process may take 7 days or 5 or more so the ticket will not be working agter 3 days or 2 , and if I buy real ticket I may loose 1000$ if evisa not approved because ticket from Morocco to bangkok are not cheap

So what's the best solution

And if there any advice to give me so the evisa will approved

Non 0 multi entry marriage visa.

Need a bit of help. I work 28/28 day rotation and need a bit of help with the new Non 0 EVISA.

Previously I was able to turn my non 0 into a multi entry easily now I have been told with the new EVISA you need to stay in thailand for 60day cooling period before you can change to multi entry.

Unfortunately I can not do that due to leaving for work after 28days in country.

Does anyone know a way to change the non 0 to multi entry after onky being 28days in thailand

I applied for DTV online as a Retiree before entering Thailand. It was my first time applying for a visa. Was I supposed to apply for a eVisa or Non O visa since it was my first time?

Anybody have experience with Thai Embassy in either Kuala Lumpur or Penang?

Will make my application in about two weeks but one is probably better than the other… does Penang (since August) still do walk ins?
