When transferring USD from my local bank to Wise and then to a Thai bank…about how much is WISE going to charge for their transfer fee? 25k usd being transferred to open bank account. I’m seeing $196. 🤷 and send it as USD and receive as Thai baht or receive as USD to Thai bank?

Whereas my Charles Schwab account will only charge me $15 via wire transfer but will take 3-4 days to be in Thai bank. Is there a massive charge on the Thai end? What am I missing? First timer here. Thanks! And no, not using an agent!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the costs involved in transferring USD to a Thai bank, focusing on the fees from Wise ($196 for a $25,000 transfer) compared to a $15 wire transfer through Charles Schwab, which might take longer. Comments highlight concerns about hidden costs related to exchange rates, noting that Wise offers transparent upfront fees and rates, while the Thai banks may charge additional commissions and offer less favorable exchange rates. It’s also mentioned that transfers over $10,000 might trigger scrutiny from U.S. government agencies. Users share their experiences and suggest comparing methods for the best overall costs.

Not sure about USD

But

It’s about $10 AUD for about $5000 AUD to wise

And

It’s a realistic exchange rate

Prices have gone up, 196 is what you can expect these days

Presently an internal currency exchange in Wise 0.567% however fee is about to rise by 25% - is still FA.

wise to Thai bank in THB - 44.45 baht, any volume.

@Ian *******
depends entirely on currency of origin, bank of origin and method of transfer you choose. The fee usually does rise and fall depending on volume

the currency transfer fee drops for balance of month once you've sent A$40k.

Wise will break down all fees and rate and will deposit in currency of local account debit card is higher then bank to bank

It is not about the fees but how much arrives in your bank. The Wise app tells you up front how much you will receive.

@Ian *********
most apps will tell you the exchange rate and the bank will tell you to, they know what it is, you just have to ask before you transfer

Yeah the Thai bank take a commission on bank transfer. Wise is cheaper even if they charge more in transfer fees

Wise give you an option on transfer methods and also show the fees for each. Don’t pay any attention to the amounts in the photo as it was a small transfer I made today for experimental reasons. For people complaining that they can no longer select the reason for the transfer within the Wise app, you still can but it’s not so obvious to find.

My own bank told me £15 ($20) but the exchange rate was going to cost me £1300 ($1700)

Did it today for 25K euro. My own bank said it would be cheaper via Wise. An i have Deutsche bank, at least they're honest.

If you do over 9,900 or so into Thailand there's a good chance your a USA account is going to get flagged

I had PayPal shut me down completely for swiping over $10,000 at a car dealership. Keep in mind that with under $10,000 transactions I did over 13 million baht.

But the one time it exceeded $10,000 I was shut down within 3 days..lol

.

If you're going to do all that much in one go you should do a direct bank wire from your bank.. where you can fill out any necessary forms.

please don't compare PayPal to Wise

Check with Schwab they have good rates.

That amount alerts USA government. I did 9000 usd max each time transferring USD to my Thai bank account and didn’t pay near that much. (8 years ago so may have changed in price.). I suggest transferring USD to THB in your Thai bank account directly. I’ve never transferred USD to Thailand and deposited it as USD. THAI bank fee is 500 baht I believe but as said above the exchange rate is about 10% worse than using wise. You can fill out the form in the app but don’t complete the transaction until you compare using Schwab. Let us know what you find out.

Sounds like youre admitting to committing a criminal offense by structuring your transfers to subvert financial reporting requirements.
Michael ********
It still cheaper because of the exchange rate the Thai bank gives you if you send it with a normal bank.

Sure, $15 for the TRANSFER, but you're going to be completely hosed on the exchange rate. And you won't get to know how much baht you're actually going to end up with until the transfer is complete and it has been exchanged, so it will be a mystery.

With Wise you know EVERYTHING up front, what they charge and what the exchange rate will be.
