I just joined the group, like many others, with the idea of moving to Thailand and starting a "*new life*." At the time, I looked into all the VISA options—even considered the ELITE one—but here's the problem.
The Elite Bronze doesn't allow you to bring a partner, at least not right now (I think it did before), and there's no guarantee that will change in the future. So I decided to go for the DTV (2). I’ve more or less got a clear idea of the documents they ask for, at least in my case, at the embassy in Madrid (Spain).
But I have one question I haven’t found solid info on, and I’m sure someone here can answer it better: no matter how you enter the country—Elite, DTV, etc.—are there any issues bringing pets?
I have a dog (about ≈30kg) and a cat (≈2kg), and they’re family. They’re part of the package when it comes to moving to Thailand.
Have any of you run into problems? Do they make things difficult in that regard? 🙄
But, I am hoping of making a long term move to Thailand going down the DTV route but initially coming in as a tourist. I’ve been preparing my dog for a move (she came with me from Mexico > Europe) but just noticed that the import certificate is only valid for 60 days.
Does anyone know if these dog import certificates can be extended or have experience with owning a “foreign” dog in Thailand for a period longer than 60 days? Or can dogs do “visa runs” too, seems unlikely as paperwork is so difficult to import/export in the first place.
Any advice super appreciated! Already reached out to Relo4Pets just waiting for them to get back to me and was curious to see if anyone else has been through this 🐶✨

Hi All - has anyone brought their French Bulldog over from Australia just hoping for tips on best airline that will do it and any other advice - many thanks
I'm researching bringing our Chihuahua to Thailand with me from the US. Anyone have tips for making this process smoother. He's tiny and ancient and would need to come in the cabin with me. I've already got an appointment at a USDA certified Vet. And so far, I've found that Saudia Air only allows pets in Cargo area not inside Cabin. That's what I flew last time to Thailand, obviously there's tons of other airline options for stopover. Thanks!
Taking our dog with us to Thailand (for our retirement)
We are looking at Lufthansa as they allow dogs in the cabin (in suitable pet carriers and subject to size and weight restrictions) alternatively the pet can go into the aircraft hold
The emotional side of me wants her to be with us, she is very timid and very close to me so will take comfort from hearing my voice and being able to see me
The other side of me is thinking, in the cabin, she will be cooped up in a carrier for 12 hours, similarly to us wearing a straitjacket and perhaps she would be more comfortable in the hold and some reports suggest being in the hold can be less stressful
Anyone have any opinions or experience on which option is the best and no. leaving her behind is absolutely not an option
Serious question to all you Expats (especially from the UK) on here who have sold up in the Uk and made Thailand your forever home
*Edit I’m more interested in the actual time scale to move to Thailand, not overly concerned about how long it takes to sell my home though that would be part of the process *
In your experience/ opinion, if (for example) we decided 1st August this year we wanted to sell your home and move permanently to Thailand to retire, subject to our home selling within 3 months (start to handing over the keys)
How quickly would you expect the whole process to take (as in from deciding, yes we are going to do this to moving into long term rented accommodation in Thailand)
Could we literally put our home up for sale beginning of August and subject to it being sold within 3 months, fly out of the UK (one way remember, WITH OUR DOG) mid/end November?
Thank You (as always)
Please stick to the question, we will not be renting out our home
Any advice on MOVING to Thailand with a cat? Which airlines are more recommended? I've booked a flight with Cathay Pacific only to read that as of June 2022 they're no longer accepting bookings for pets as checked luggage, only cargo. That's not an option for me. Ideally I'd love for him to travel in the cabin with me or at least the same flight. Coming from the US. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
