Does anyone have any experience with having a DTV visa and owning a pet(mini schnauzer), mainly getting them back and forth out of the country.(Thailand to USA) ?
Answer summary
Traveling with a pet (mini schnauzer) on a DTV visa from Thailand to the USA involves several considerations. Bringing your pet into Thailand is generally easy, requiring current vaccinations and proper import paperwork. However, returning to the USA is more complex, with strict CDC and USDA requirements, potential quarantine, and specific airport restrictions. It's essential to check various agency requirements well in advance, ideally starting the paperwork process at least four months before travel. Recommendations for agencies like United Pet Express in Bangkok are provided for support with the import process.

As long as all vaccinations are up to date for your pet, and it's microchipped, you'll be fine.
Easy to bring into Thailand, much harder to bring back into the US. Make sure you are checking various agency requirements. For example, you must meet CDC requirements, USDA, and in some instances state-specific requirements. If you mistakenly go to one agency’s website to review requirements, they won’t mention requirements for other agencies. You will need rabies vaccine certification from govt vet, can only enter into the US via certain airports, might need to place the dog into quarantine, all paperwork must be approved far in advance, etc. you will want to start 4+ months prior to returning to the US
Into Thailand is easy, and I highly recommend touching base with United Pet Express based in Bangkok if you want help with the process on the Thai side. You just need up to date vaccinations and the correct import paperwork.
Can't speak for USA, but it's extremely difficult and expensive if I want to take my dogs back to Australia
They made life very easy, picking my dogs up from the plane and walking them through the entire customs import process, and dropped them off at my hotel in Bangkok. They were really great
