Thank you for running this post. I have a question, if I may.

I’m an American and my wife is Thai. We are seriously considering retirement in Bangkok later this year. I have been studying the requirements for the LTR visa (wealthy pensioner). I had a passive income of $88,000 last year, and probably similar this year. (But I suspect it depends on how the documents are interpreted).

If I begin the process of application through the BOI it is said to take 20 days, let’s say, a month (if everything acceptable). Then I must apply for the visa at the embassy here and find adequate medical insurance.

How long does it all take? Of course, the sooner we book a trip, generally the cheaper it is.

Secondly, if I fail (either the BOI or the embassy), then what’s the best alternative? Five-year retirement visa (non-immigrant O-X)?

Thank you for any pointers you can provide.

Hi

I have a non immigrant O-X visa and go back and forth to the UK roughly every 6 months for 6 months. Last time I turned up to do the 90 report I was advised not required and come back in 5 years. No issues on leaving or returning.

I am due a 90 days report in early January for this trip but don’t want to waste my time again in immigration.

Does anyone know if I do or don’t need to report ?

I am an Australian passport holder and permanent resident in Sydney. Am over 55 and investigating the Non Immigrant O-X (5 year) Retirement Visa.

Have seen conflicting 'Proof of funds' criteria, depending what Thai Consulate/HC i check. Some say THB 3million in Thai bank, located in Thailand. Others mention AUD 150k in Australian bank in Sydney, for example.

So I emailed the Thai Consulate in Sydney and asked them if i could qualify for the O-X based on holding AUD 150k in an Aussie bank. They said yes. Can.

Am interested if anyone else has successfully applied for an O-X visa using funds from your home country/bank?

I'm American. Today, I called the Thai consulate in Los Angeles. They told me I could apply for a retirement visa there successfully, and they would give me a "fit to fly" certificate so I could enter Thailand. They told me I had to buy a plane ticket to thailand on one of four specific plane carriers. Of course, I'd need to buy health insurance and quarantine.

But they assured me that I could enter Thailand.

I've read hundreds of posts from people saying they can't get in, but the Los Angeles consulate says they are issuing many types of visas.

Any comments?

# Non-Immigrant “O-X” (long stay) Changwattana ?

Have read as much as I can find on the O X visa, aware of all the requirements. Unlike the O A visa, the O X can be issued at Changwattana (at least that is what is claimed on almost every Embassy/Consulate website I've seen)

However I've not seen or read of anyone actually applying or being issued this at Changwatana yet. Has any of out esteemed admins laid eyes on this visa at Changwattana?

Researching longer term stays in Thailand, other than the 2+1 tourist visas we normally come on. Non immigrant o-x looks great BUT im 43 yrs, my understanding is I would need to be over 50?

Alternatively, I found the Elite scheme which is interesting, if slightly more pricey.

ED Visa might be interesting as I'd be keen to learn Thai in more depth than conversational. However, the UK criminal record check would need a trip back which might be self defeating in terms of costs AND the additional money to leave to collect the visa and the fees might dictate the Elite to be a more sensible option.

Can you guys think of any other visas which might be interesting? Thanks, helpful.

What is the difference between a Non-Immigrant O-A & Non-Immigrant O-X? Is anyone familiar with the advantages and/or disadvantages of each?
