Im currently 46 years old and my wife is 38 how or what visa would we need for long term stay ie for ever
Answer summary
For a long-term stay in Thailand, you have several visa options. The Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa) allows stays of 5-20 years and can include spouses. The Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa offers a 10-year stay for wealthy individuals or professionals and also permits work. The Non-Immigrant O-A and O-X Visas are retirement visas available for individuals aged 50 and above, but you'll need to wait until you meet the age requirement. Additionally, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) allows for remote work and is valid for 5 years with extended stays, especially suitable for digital nomads. Consider your work situation and future plans, as these will influence which visa is most appropriate.

What are your plans for living in Thailand? Will you get a job in Thailand? Will you or your wife work remotely from Thailand? Do you not plan to do anything to generate income while you are in Thailand? Any other relevant information to help people answer your question?
KnowledgeableLobster7419 if you have a business in the UK I assume you do at least some work in the business in which case you should apply for a DTV based on Workation and once you have your DTV your wife can apply as your spouse, you will need to jump out of Thailand and return every 180 days but it is good for 5 years. The alternative is the Thai Privilege visa which comes in various guises giving stays of 5 to 15 years, it's relatively expensive and you can't legally do any work on it.
Here are some options Thailand Privilege Visa (Elite Visa): Provides 5-20 years of stay with VIP perks; Family inclusion possible for spouses.
Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa: 10 years (5+5 renewable) for wealthy individuals with high assets/income or professionals; includes work rights and spouse eligibility.
Non-Immigrant O-A/O-X (Retirement): 1-year renewable indefinitely for those 50+ with THB 800k savings or income; you can't qualify yet (you're 46), but your wife is too young—revisit in 4 years.
Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): 5 years (180-day entries, extendable) for remote workers/digital nomads; flexible if you have freelance income
