can I ask about the legal permissions for essential, short-term business engagements, meetings, etc that were apparently available under the 60-day visa-exempt scheme? This morning, The BKK Insider stated, "The replacement 30-day scheme effective September 15 reduces the maximum stay duration but retains the exact same legal permissions for essential, short-term business engagements, meaning business activities are absolutely still included." Whereas Aseannow.com's newsletter states, "The former 60-day visa-exemption arrangement is being replaced by a 30-day tourism-only stay. Foreigners travelling to Thailand specifically for business meetings, contract work or urgent assignments should no longer assume they can enter without first arranging the appropriate visa." The exact opposite! Which is correct? I ask as I have a Brit friend coming to Thailand on holiday & will enter visa-exempt, but his employer has a Thai branch office in BKK that he intends to visit informally, but obviously not just to swill tea. Can he do that legally under the 30-day visa-exempt scheme?
