Shockingly, this seems like a totally reasonable compromise from the local IO. Too bad they're not all this flexible.

In 2021 Bangkok Bank across from T21 in Pattaya demanded that I buy an insurance policy for 16,836 baht (still have the receipt) before they would even consider opening an account for me. Went to the Bangkok Bank branch in Jomtien near the IO and got an account opened in an hour and no insurance required. The incredible lack of consistency from one office to the next can be a real PITA.

exactly this - had my US passport renewed in Oct. The mail in process required 4 weeks from the day I mailed it until the day I received it. It's always a bit disconcerting to not have physical possession of your passport but the renewal process worked very efficiently IMO.

is 100 percent correct here. I'm currently in ALQ and used the Emirates/AIG free policy to fly EK384 DXB-BKK on 15-Jun. COE approved with no issue whatsoever. Accepted at EK checkin in DXB and Thai Immigration at BKK.

Is it possible to open an account in one branch and then transfer the account to another branch of the same bank? Or do they make that difficult too?

You might also try contacting them through other social media apps - FB messenger, Twitter, IG, etc if you haven't already done so. Worth a shot...
