Mei Gee find a pet friendly hotel or airbnb for the first month or so and then look for a rental once you are here.

I travel annually back and forth to USA with my chihuahua. As long as you have all the required documentation and vaccinations you will be fine. Some airlines will require an import permit from the Thai Livestock Department even though technically you can apply for it once you land. Follow the requirements on the USDA/APHIS website and you will be fine.

Make sure you ask your vet to issue you the new ‘Certification of US issued Rabies Vaccination’ or CUIRV just in case you need to return to US.

Cats to USA are so easy, check the USDA/APHIS website, you will see nothing is required. But on the Thai side, you will need to do the export permit and that requires the vaccination booklet from your wife’s regular vet.

Easy enough to find flights I would think but you would have to do the thai livestock dept vet check no more than 5 days before your flight and of course adhere to whichever country’s pet import rules are in place as well as perhaps having to go through the same in that country to leave again, so import, then export requirements. The DLD (Department of Livestock Development has the import requirements of all countries on their website. I would stick with the country with the easiest requirements. Maybe Cambodia but again, not sure which airline will allow in cabin and Cambodia is probably not easy right now. I think Vietnam has one that does allow in cabin. You can also drive easily back and forth across the border into Laos with your dog (at least this is what I hear).
