Did mine two weeks ago both car and bike and you are correct. Just don’t forget to sign every copy page. I didn’t have an international licence but they converted it from my regular UK licence.
explained above but if you don’t want to go outside the country to change your visa when you arrive here, do your research online and use the farang learn Thai Facebook page to get some reviews from other students currently learning Thai at schools here. Most schools have their courses and fees displayed on their website and some will organise the education visa paperwork for you so you can apply at the Thai embassy in Portugal before you leave (this is what I did) I will say though if you are going to do it this way you must leave yourself enough time for the school to get the paperwork in order as they need a letter from the MOE in Bangkok before you can apply for this visa. If your school is based in BKK it shouldn’t be too long I would plan for about a month at least before you visit Thailand. If the school is outside BKK at least 2 months, as mine took nearly this long inc courier to my home Country and applying by post to the embassy.
it seems as though Jomtien immigration has one set of rules and the rest of Thailand have another. I also was intending to study 8hrs per week until I arrived and was told no it’s 4hrs and immigration are fine with that.
This may not be strictly true in Patts, as I arrived here on the 1st Feb with a single entry ED issued in London expecting to study 8hrs per week only to be told at the Thai language school that the formal paperwork to get this visa had to show the min study hours of 8hrs pw but for local immigration for extensions 4hrs is adequate and is what the school now schedules for per week for lessons. I have already bought 180hrs tuition so that will be over 12 months then go back to get my paperwork from the school just before every 90 days is up. I do know the rules in Patts is somewhat different from the rest of the country for some reason, so what is suitable here may not be suitable for you if you are in Chiang Mai for example especially when it comes to learning Thai at a private school. Local rules seem to change constantly in Pattaya. One other thing that I will add, it is very obvious there are certain individuals in my class that have absolutely no interest in learning Thai and this is the first class with over 20 students compared to previous classes so whether this studying 4hrs per week is a new thing that a few people have caught onto, well I’m not sure just thought I would let you know the current situation.
and throughout the many posts you consistently provide direct and accurate answers to the questions asked. I don’t usually ask questions on here and am more of a silent observer but without knowing it, you have helped me numerous times. Thanks
