Sorted my partners visa out last year ,first time we have applied lucky I have a good pension had both flights booked and paid for, the application was approved she has a daughter that she was returning to Thailand for. Done it ourselves without a problem.
I got mine from the Post office just before I left on the 11th of April.
When you get you IDP please check you have the correct one for Thailand, last year they gave me the wrong one which made me illegal when driving ,don't notice until this year when I was given the correct one.
All UK 60 day visa's are now visa's that you get on line try and apply on line for one it will be emailed to you,you will just have to do a boarder run and come back in on the 60 day visa.
I have a UK 6 month 60day multiple entry evisa, can stop for 60day then every time you leave and return you get another 60 days no need to get 30 day extensions, you can even leave a few days before the 6 months is is up and when you return you get another 60 that will take you past the 6 months expiry day and then you can get a 30 day extension, if worked right you can get nearly 9 months
