Hello sorry if someone asked this already. I’m currently in Thailand can I apply for tourist visa and get extra 60 days or does that have to be done before I went here?

Also when you apple for 30 day extension what documents do you have to bring? I remember doing it last year but the hotel printed me a sheet of paper and I can’t remember what that was.

Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires whether they can apply for a 60-day tourist visa while already in Thailand or if this must be done from their home country. Responses clarify that applying for a tourist visa (specifically a 60-day) must be done prior to entering Thailand through a Thai embassy or consulate. They can only extend their stay by 30 days while in Thailand at immigration. Comments suggest bringing specific documents like a recent TM30 form printed from their hotel when applying for the extension, though requirements can differ by location. Furthermore, obtaining a visa on arrival or reentering the country on a tourist exemption depends on the passport held, with limitations on how often one can use these options without raising suspicions with immigration authorities.

It seems Jomtien immigration no longer requires filing a new TM30 when re-entering Thailand from abroad if one goes back to the same address. Is this true ?

All UK 60 day visa's are now visa's that you get on line try and apply on line for one it will be emailed to you,you will just have to do a boarder run and come back in on the 60 day visa.

I have successfully applied for and received eVisas while in Thailand. However, it won't be "activated" unless you leave and come back. Also, the rules say you're not technically supposed to do that, so you are running a risk of losing the visa application fee.

Best of luck.

You can't apply for a tourist visa in country. If you want a 60 day tourist visa (which can be extended for another 30 days, making 90 in total) you can go to the Thai Embassy in a Neighbouring country and apply. For example, go to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane (Laos). You need to book an appointment online and then the visa takes 3 days. So for example if you have your appointment on Wednesday, you can pick up your passport and visa on Friday. Weekends don't count so if you have an appointment on Friday, you'll pick the visa up on Tuesday next week.

do you know if you can get a visa on arrival ?

You would need to leave the country and come back, and whether you get a visa on arrival or visa exemption depends on your passport. Different countries get different things. UK gets a visa exemption, for example.

Some people just cross the border and come straight back. But you can only do that two times per year, and if you look like you're abusing tourist visas / visa exemptions / visas on arrival, immigration officers might question you. But if you've not been here long I don't think it matters so much

ahh that’s my problem I have like 3 stamps coming in cause I decided to go to Laos last month for a few hours not for visa just cause I was in udon and that’s why they questioned me this time if you’re only allowed to do that twice. I’ll have to get a visa of some sort so it doesn’t look like I’m abusing it! I’ve been here for about 2 months 3 months after this month. Thank you ! Defos don’t want to be banned from coming back 🤣

thank you very much that might be what I’ll have to do after this time. I entered a few times last year with no problem but this last time I’m kinda worried I won’t be let in again.

This particular group hands out so much useful information......so how come with every new post asking a pertinent question, you get some clown hitting the laughter emoji? Like seriously are there kids allowed here or what?

You can only get a 60 day tourist visa if you apply through a Thai embassy or consulate before you travel to Thailand.

The 30 day tourist extension requirements vary from immigration office to office. Here is a list of general requirements but your office might not be exactly the same.

Cool your head with ice cubes. Flip Flops doesn't help. 🙈

every office is different. Phuket doesn't require a TM30 for tourist extension which is what your hotel would have given you.

You can only apply for 30 days extension at the Immigration.

Touristvisa you need to apply for from you country of residence.

can you apply for another extension after that? As I have reentered like 3 times this year and the last time they asked for a departure ticket and typed some stuff on the computer about my departure and told me it looks like you’re staying here long term not for holiday and told me to get a visa ?
Sh ****
ORIGINAL POSTER
Yeah they just casually questioned saying do I have a return ticket and I didn’t so had to book it on the spot before being let in and that was it.

oh sheeettt…. So I can’t re enter without a visa if I fly back out and back in next time?

@Sh ***
you can go to an embassy in another country and apply for a tourist visa

If he already been warned at the immigration about his stays and don’t seems to be a genius tourist, I don’t think a tourist visa would make any difference.

@Jan *****************
yeah maybe not.

ahhh thank you I’ll have a look into it

@Sh ***
you just said you got stopped at the airport and asked questions. That was your warning that you're abusing visa exempt and are likely to get denied entry soon
Brandon ************
@Sh ***
you can still apply for one extension per entry. But after that you're done. You've been warned not to return to Thailand without a real visa.
