Richard has Thai wife with Thai passport, Thai ID card and no doubt friends and family in Thailand.

Absolutely doable! Bangkok Bank are most definitely ‘foreigner friendly’. They like to sell personal accident insurance as the staff get commission. If you have no other form of insurance it’s worth buying at around 5,000 baht. Fees are similar. You pay an annual account maintenance fee and fee for debit card if you request one.

I know we’re talking about UK but my sister-in-law was refused a tourist visa for Australia. One of the ‘reasons’ they gave was that money had only recently been deposited into her savings account. This apparently indicates to them that she normally doesn’t have any!

Flew Thai Airways from Munich to Bangkok September 2023. Check-in staff required sight of return/onward ticket or, ‘some sort of visa’. I had extension from Non-O (Retirement) Visa and reentry permit which I showed them.

Shouldn’t be permitted to reject any application for such reason.

My second leg (Bahrain to Bangkok) was cancelled due to a death on the aircraft. We were provided with refreshments, transportation and overnight accommodation. Didn’t actually incur any loss though.

That’s diabolical Max! This is exactly the situation for which you purchase travel insurance (as you well know). I had similar, booked connecting flights with same airline on same booking. First flight cancelled and no other flights available to connect in time. Couldn’t change or cancel the second flight because of the terms and conditions of booking.

My bank always immediately understood what I needed until the last occasion. They asked; ‘for Thai immigration?’.
