I think Thai immigration is realising what a major disruption this is for all. It's going to need a team effort between Immigration and peoples Consulate's and Embassie's. 'Jump on a plane back home' is either not an option, financially possible, nor a fair expectation for long term people who have house, family, car, bike, pets, assets and a happy life (all before this crisis hit)
It's a bit of a mess right now (understandably) but all countries realise this is a time to come together and show compassion. If you have a problem, be proactive, ask questions, do research and make some noise to your embassy / consulate and to whatever extent you can...Thai immigration. Don't stress, common sense will prevail, but we will have to push it along ;)
Check with the Malaysian Embassy or Consulate if they are willing to give you a covid extension letter that will give you up to 30 days to figure things out. You won't be able to work on that extension though. My Australian consulate decided two days ago to help long term expats with these letters too (including Non-imm b) :)
Agreed! You will need to be proactive and get your new employer to push to allow application INSIDE of Thailand. There are plenty of people in your situation. The more noise we make, the quicker an exemption will happen.
is right, if you are currently on a soon to expire / cancel Non-Imm B extension (as the law stands) you will need to do that outside of Thailand. The only chance to change this is to get your employer (pref someone high up) to push for an exemption during this crisis. If you leave it up to a recruitment agent or admin staff to fight in your corner...game over! The more noise everybody in this situation makes, the quicker common sense may prevail. If you just sit quietly in the corner letting someone uninterested / inexperienced take care of you application, no chance... P.S. I am on a Non-Imm B teaching extension and changing jobs soon too ;)
This is a common misconception that you get 24 hours to leave. It is actually 'leave same day'. Doesn't matter how early in the morning either ;) I did the next day 'within 24 hours' before and my grievences just got a belligerent 'up to you' from the IO passport control guy. Get your crisp 500 baht note ready :)
