Well, I did the same in Thailand in 2022 and now see where we have ended up. When did you set up the account in Cambodia? And which bank was that?

there is ACLEDA and Bred bank that offers Euro accounts, as far as I know. I don’t use them, but checked they have this option.

But the thing is that you need a long term visa and work contract to open an account now. Or use an agency that will set it up, like we did.

Anonymous participant 308 it’s direct conversion from USD to THB. All accounts are in USD, not KHM. So all transactions cost less than 2%. All QR payments are around 0.9-1.3% according to my calculations.

Or you can just open a USD bank acc in Cambodia through an agent and use it and cards freely in Thailand. Even Thai QR pay works for most transactions in the bank app.

Anonymous participant easy. Officially you cannot do with tourist visa and need to pay around $270 for a visa extension AND $50 for a letter from “work”, but there are ways to pay around $300 upfront and get an ABA bank account within 24-36 hours

My recommendation is to open a bank account in Cambodia.

It is still rather easy, you can use QR payments all over Thailand, instant transfers to Thailand (transfers not cheap though).

The account is nominated in US dollars and you get Visa and Mastercard super cheap.

I have been using it as a backup for a while and for crypto as well (it is still legal in Cambodia)
