Go ahead and start to get your marriage license certified by us department of state. The Thai embassy in USA will have instructions. It takes a few weeks. Maybe longer now.

You might need to look and do research on your own by visiting royal thai embassy and inquiring about their long term visas first and then ask specific questions. There is a lot to consider and you might need more prep if you want to start a long term life in Thailand.

I would not count social security as a pension. If that’s all you have then you should not retire until absolutely necessary

you can enter Thailand with a visa exempt. I will want to apply for a non o and eventually an extension based on marriage. Why would someone go to laos

I suppose this is where I get confused. Why does someone go to Laos to get the visa ? Why can’t you go to Bangkok or some other office in Thailand? I live in America with my Thai wife and plan to retire to Thailand in the future. We have had our marriage license examined at the Thai embassy in Chicago and registered in Thailand already. Just wanting to be ready.

they need over 60 days. You can enter without for 30 and then extend for 30 more.

They said they were off the Thailand for over 60 days. They want to know what’s best visa to get.
