in 1979 I'd have struggled to have 20k baht in my wallet as I started my holiday. 2024 it's not a lot at all.

20k baht is not much. I'd say if you don't have that much money to show for a holiday then you're going to struggle financially.

those options have different requirements. Retirement visa is for person over 50yrs old.

there will be plenty of advice in this group on options to remain in Thailand as the spouse of a Thai. One is visa based on marriage, with proof of 400,000 tbt in a Thai bank. And also a retirement visa but that requires 800,000 in your Thai bank.
