Someone just asked me about Krabi coastline and they'd "heard" swimming isn't possible because of sea lice, jelly fish etc. I've never been there but someone on here may know what this is about. Any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Concerns have been raised about swimming along the Krabi coastline due to potential encounters with sea lice and jellyfish. While some travelers have experienced issues, others report no problems during their visits. Tips shared include applying coconut oil to deter sea lice and being cautious of swimming in quieter areas. Recent warnings about jellyfish have been broadcasted, particularly regarding a specific type in Phuket, advising vinegar for stings. Overall, experiences vary, and it's essential to check local conditions daily.

the ocean is dynamic and jellyfish come and go with the tides. you have to check each place every day is not always the same.

I've told the lady to go and if not perfect water around Krabi, do boat trips. . There's loads to do from there for sure.

Some government department put out a warning today about a particular type of jellyfish around some beaches of Phuket. I only heard it on the radio so I’m not sure exactly of what type. It wasn’t about box jellyfish but another type. They advised to administer vinegar if stung and seek medical attention.

hmm. I don't know where she read you can't swim in the sea. .

I've heard applying coconut oil on your legs before you go onto the beach stops them from biting.

Also, daily raking the sand disturbs their eggs and thus they won't be there.

So busy beaches should be ok, quiet/undisturbed beaches should be rife.

I got hit by sea lice the other day in Koh Lanta. Heard there were jellyfish in the water as well.

I should have known better since even though the beach was beautiful there wasn’t anyone swimming in the ocean. Big contrast to the Andaman side which is full of people swimming….. at least in Karon and Patong where I’ve been since.

I mean Koh lanta is still the andaman but sure.

I swam yesterday and saw one jellyfish the size of a bin lid washed up on the beach.

Generally this is the season where we do get a few washed up but for the most part it’s normally short lived.
