What should I do if my Thai bank app gets locked due to verification issues?

😟 Bank app locked me out.

No email or SMS notification from the bank. Just opened my bank app out of curiosity after reading a FB post here about his bank app getting locked. Same thing happened to me. So I went to AIS at Central Rama 9, did their ID verification, topped up 100 baht credit to my AIS account and got the AIS receipt which has my details like full name, passport number and mobile number for the bank then went to the bank branch here and after waiting 1 hour, my turn took 20 minutes for the bank to update. After 5PM same day, bank app is ok now.

I still love Thailand 🇹🇭🤩

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recounted their experience of getting locked out of their banking app without prior notification from their bank. After following a sequence of actions, including topping up their AIS account for verification and visiting a bank branch, they successfully regained access. Several comments from other users discussed their similar experiences with various banks like SCB and Kasikorn, focusing on issues related to mobile banking app access due to verification requirements. Many expressed concerns over the bank's notification processes and the need for updated personal information to prevent account lockouts.

They wouldn’t unlock mine without my original bank book… 😥

I’d be happy to just open my bank account, got message from Thai Visa Centre advising they will probably not be able to do it after July, 😖 surely Thailand is not going to stop all ex pats retiring or living there?

My Sim was registered with my Thai pink ID card, didn't match with my passport number at the bank, I went to the AIS topped up 50 Baht then went to the bank, all sorted in a hour. Kasikorn Bank.

@Michael *******
I just was at KBank with same issue, after ½ hour of checking filling out forms, they told me they have to send everything to the head office, the branches can‘t unlock. So I was told it takes 3 days

all bank's are different, some know how to fix it some don't, good luck

SCB have just done the same, they claim they are checking phone numbers because of scams and fraud. That's OK but the way they go about things drives you nuts 🤬
Max *************
@Tony ********
This whole thing is about 700,000 numbers from 2022. Not every number is suspicious because of possible fraud.Some people might have bought sim-cards from for example Lazada which were pre-registered.That's not allowed. It must be registered in your name.
Tony *********
@Max ************
- I see, the issue I have is when you go to SCB, show them the notification message you received on their own system, show them a text message you just got from AIS after visiting them confirming your number and details and then the numpty member of staff tells you 'not to worry about it everything's fine' and then low and behold a few days later your app is blocked 🤬

If they had brains they would be dangerous 🙄🤬
Max *************
@Tony ********
I don't know about SCB and how it works there,but I know for sure it's about those 700k numbers. I'm banking with both Bangkok Bank and KBank and sometimes messages pops up when logging in to mobile banking. Lately they have informed about the numbers from 2022. The registered name on your sim-card must be your name and the number must match the number in your mobile banking app. This is imo totally clear. I have had the same registered number for many years at both of my banks.

- I'm also with Bangkok Bank not had anything yet from them, we'll see. 👍🏻

The government had a media blitz 4 months ago that this was going to happen, encouraging people to update their info.

and I did it in April through K+ App which they offered to make selfcontrol. I wa told that everything is ok no further action needed. So how could I know that it wasn‘t ok? They suspended my App last week wothout warning.

@Sue *********
I'd have gone directly to my home branch, app verification is superficial, we were advised to go to the bank.

Happened to me just before Buddha days. Had to wait several days and sit and wait in Kasikorn bank for hours. Not a nice thing to do to customers of the bank.

I went on Monday to a Bangkok bank branch. They said they couldn't update my phone number at the branch, they had to send the documents to the "head office" and it will take 2 weeks.

The one on Suthep road by suwandok hospital. They open at 8:30

I had to go into the bank to have face i.d.

Message came up on banking app when I wanted to transfer 2,000 bht.

The following day all ok.
Sue **********
@Bri ***
Thats something different. I made this face ID thing as well. But they still suspended my K+ App due to supposedly mismatch of name of mobile acc vs bank acc, which turned out that there was no mismatch, but they couldn‘t unlock it at the counter

It happened to me even after I went to the bank and showed correct information and mobile ownership same as my passport. Still locked me out. The support team has been trying to resolve why it locked me and and even just now before I type this the bank branch employee that helped me earlier this month called me and said they checked in their system and I should not have locked app. So tomorrow I will go back again to the branch and talk to the same lady to try again to unlock. I have seen many posts about this even after people took the time to verify before lockout date or their information matched exactly in all parts. After having worked in technology for over 20 years I can say if something can go wrong it will. Even if everything looks normal something on the technology side will mess it up.

what bank? SCB blocked my app 3-4 days ago despite I went a few months ago to verify everything and showed them the information from AIS. They told me everything was alright and I wouldn't have any issues. But here we are, my app is blocked. SCB blocked many accounts these days and many Thai people are also complaining about it.

Same for me with SCB. Did the update months ago. Last week got a message to update. Went to SCB and they said all is good. Then 2 days ago my app was blocked. First branch I went to yesterday refused to give me a number as the queue was so long.

Went through this last week with one of my bank accounts and phone number...... My other phone and bank account wasn't affected, or nothing was asked from me ...
Nick ************
I was worried that my bank accounts would be frozen and the apps made inoperable while I am in the uk for 6 months. That would have made things a little awkward. However I am pleased to say that all 3 are still working just fine so I must be recorded correctly I suppose.

Based on the news previously, this affects mobile banking users only. So bank apps will be affected.

it is a 100 baht credit top up to my AIS account to get a receipt. This AIS receipt has my details like name, passport number and mobile number was required by the bank for verification and update. It’s my money into my own AIS account so it’s ok.
Mike ******
@Chris ****
same here Chris. I changed phone number and because I read about this hassle with Bangkok Bank, went to the Branch to update. They sent me to AIS office to pay B100 and re-do the face scan against passport photo. Took the receipt back to the branch and got a notification a few days later that everything is good. Seems to be a bit of a hassle but new regulations.

Just glad to have opened a bank account in December because it seems to be getting harder and harder.....
Roberto ***********
@Chris ****
I did the same with Dtac. My account and sim was different. I modify name in Dtac with my passport. And I didn’t pay anything
Stuart *********
My kids were notified about 2 months ago from SCB. Years ago I got them their SIMs in my name as it was just the way you did it then as they were minors.

The provider I used wouldn’t change the names over so they had to get new sims. Spent about an hour at the bank updating their phone numbers but wasn’t charged anything.
