Think it depends entirely on the immigration office you use. I got told of when I went to do a 90 day report because I had been elsewhere in Thailand and hadn’t reported to immigration when I returned home.
I once had to overstay due to an infectious medical condition that prevented me from flying, I was an outpatient. The hospital (Bumrungrad) arranged a 2 week extension in my passport (for a price). Unfortunately I ended up staying 5 weeks before I received a medical clearance certificate, immigration charged me 500baht for every day beyond the extension, and confirmed I’d have no problem entering Thailand in the future. Perhaps an extension is an option for you? Also I think I’ve read in the past that children are not penalised for overstay, worth looking into..
not to bothered, they actually spoke to my partner rather than me as I stay at her house so she always has to come along with her blue book. They didn’t penalize me, just told her next time I stay somewhere else I should inform them when I get back. Funny thing is I was away from Mukdahan about 10 days that time and have also stayed at other hotels on previous travels, but they only mentioned that one night stay in khon Kean - go figure 🤷🏻♂️
As an example, I just went to get a Certificate of Residence from my local Immigration office in Mukdahan (to open a new bank account), while there they reprimanded me for not reporting back - as their system showed I had stayed in a hotel in Khon Kaen for 1 night a few weeks ago!
