I agree there has been a lot of misinformation and my guess is they are probably making sure people entering on soft power visas aren't trying to look for work after their intended course is over, thus, want to make sure they still have sufficient funds to accommodate their stay.

Any verification of that? There was a post yesterday and multiple people said this was still the case having tried it in the past week.

ThoughtfulLychee5096 You need to register yourself as a sole proprietor in your home country which would give you a business tax number. Basically you're just asking this forum how to avoid paying taxes.
