A 6 month multiple entry visa keeps things simple. A Type O makes sense if your going to make Thailand your primary residence. The requirements are proof of funds for the previous 3 months. The price, I believe is the same. With a ฿1900 extension you only need to do 1 border run. I don't mind border runs, it gets me out of the routine of village life, and gave the opportunity to check out all the surrounding countries.
Perhaps you should review English comprehension. I stated the 90 day report does not apply to tourist visa holders. Hotel operators file occupancy reports on tourist without them doing anything except handing over their passport when checking in. The law states OVER 90 days.
"Aliens who are allowed to stay in The kingdom is temporary. If staying in the Kingdom for more than 90 days,
the foreigner has a duty to report his residence to the office staff. Immigration inspection every 90 days.
If any area has an immigration office located, you may notify the official at that office.
This is in accordance with Section 37(5) of the Immigration Act B.E. 1979."
A TM30 is required for anyone staying in the country for over 90 days. As a TR60 multiple entry tourist visa holder one is required to exit the country after 60 days. Technically 90 day reporting isn't required on a tourist visa as it's the responsibility of the accomodation provider to report your presence.
Peter Janssens thanks for your concern, but I know several officers in my village, and occasionally drink with a couple retired ones. My Thai lady friend works highway checkpoints as needed.
Nong Khai is a smooth crossing on both sides of the border. I'm preparing for my 5th Nong Khai crossing. I've stayed in Lao from 15 minutes to 30 days. With a multiple entry Thai visa I've never had problems. If you are doing the visa exempt turn around your more likely to have issues. Your entry card will ask for airline flight # and address in Thailand. I forgot my flight # on one trip and just scribbled in EVA, the airline. They accepted it.
