 what people "think" is really not relevant at all. Wife dies and you may be allowed to stay until your current permission to stay expires (assuming here on a non o). Wife divorce you you must leave within 7 days

 yes pay the 2000 and save the much larger amount if having to go to Bangkok - a bargain I would say and absolutely ok

 paid with what? Qr scan requires a Thai bank account. I pay pea electricity bill with lazada now - previously with ibanking BKK but this is easier
