Do I need health insurance to live in Thailand on a Non-O marriage visa?
hi group I want to live permanently in Thailand next year with my Thai wife. I plan to go there with a non o visa based on marriage. I will have 400.000 baht in my Thai account. My problem is the required health insurance which is very expensive for me. Any possibility to avoid this? I have a friend who has lived with his Thai wife for many years and he gets his permission to stay renewed every year without health insurance - an agent take care of that.

Health insurance requirement is only for a retirement visa at the moment (non-OA)
For a marriage visa (Non-O based on marriage), you don't need it.

Non OA is a different “animal” altogether. Can only be got in your home country and needs mandatory insurance, police checks and medical checks.Peter *********

no that is for retirement 800k NOT marriage 400k.However depending on the embassy where the visa is obtained you may be required to have insurance to cover the initial visa 90 days.
The in-country extension will not require any Insurance.
This is becoming the norm with non-0 obtained outside of country.
Not to be confused with OA which requires Insurance to be valid the entire duration.

ok now understand and thats why you need insurance as you are getting visa in your home country. If you apply for non o in Thailand 🇹🇭 you wouldn't require insurance but you would need 800k Thai baht in a thai bank 3 months for applying for it 😉Kim *********

ja, men du kan få en forsikring der dækker offe tlog hospitaler, det kan du få din kone til at undersøge, det er meget billigere. Har selv boet i thailand i mange år, og der skal ikke ret meget til før du selv skal betale 200k uden forsikring.John ****************

mener det er 1500 thb om måned og man kan kun komme på offentlig hospital, og det er mindre beløb den dækker men får du en lungebetændelse eller ligende så skal du ikke selv betale, jeg har haft lungebetændlese i thailand, havede jeg ikke forsikring kostede det 215.000.... og der er mange offentlig hospitaler der er okKim *********

I don't remember where I saw this but I saw it on different web sites - good to know it is not an requirement - and was just told in this group that I could get insurance for public hospitals much cheaper than the prices I have seenActivity
