You can stay around 6 months with just three 30 day visa exempt stamps and three extensions at Immigration

Since 2017 January 1st, they give 30 days, no more 15.

I suppose they class it as land/sea (no flight, anyway) entry, so the rule of max 2 entries per calendar year should be valid

After your first 30 day stamp on arrival, you can get a 30 day extension at any Immigration office.

Then 30 day stamp in Ranong and extension again.

Did you mean that?

If yes, it is legit.

Consider that you are allowed to get no more than 2 entries by land per calendar year.

Yes.

An agency in Samui organize private border runs to Ranong. Just need to pay 500 baht (or a really brand new 10 US dollars note) for Myanmar border fee.

How can I convert my tourist visa to a retirement visa while in Phuket and open a bank account without a work permit?

Since you (hopefully) open your bank account, 800,000 baht must be deposited on it at least 2 months before you apply retirement visa.

In the mean time you could get a 30 day extension on your current visa and then do a visarun (Penang?) and apply a second tourist visa.
