Hi all

Can you still go from Ranong to kaw Thoung Myanmar .

By ferry.

I did a visa run that way in 2004.

I never see anyone on this page talk about it. Just want to know if you can still do that run.

And hopefully help people who don't know about it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks information about the current status of visa runs from Ranong, Thailand to Kaw Thoung, Myanmar via ferry. It highlights changes in visa rules, where the entry stamp for crossing into Myanmar has returned to a 30-day allowance as of January 1, 2017. Various community members discuss alternative options for extending stays in Thailand, including getting a tourist visa from a consulate, multiple entries, and their experiences with ferry trips to Myanmar, implicating considerations on legality and entry categorization.

It's easier and cheaper to do it all in Thailand.

Get another 30 days on samui then a drive to Ranong

Better than the train to London and the cold walk to the Thai embassy

Done that in the passed but don't want to go to London twice.

Now I know you get 30 days again instead of 15 I'll go to Ranong and myanamar.

Thanks for your advice tod

your idea of a 30 day visa exempt entry, a 30 day extension and one border bounce for a 30 day visa exempt entry would tide you over too ;)

If you're comin' here for 89 days just pull a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate before you wing your way here and then extend that by 30 days for 1900baht.

That's the easiest solution.

Coming out for 89 days again just wanted to know about the Ranong run to Myanamar.

Cos no one talks about it.

But I knew that it changed to 15 days some time ago.

But reading this page I know now it's gone back to 30 days.

So no need to go to London twice now. Thanks for your help.

And hopefully this will help others who never knew about this visa run.

Good luck.

After your first 30 day stamp on arrival, you can get a 30 day extension at any Immigration office.

Then 30 day stamp in Ranong and extension again.

Did you mean that?

If yes, it is legit.

Consider that you are allowed to get no more than 2 entries by land per calendar year.

Have a Google for the Andaman club. I don't use it as I don't need the visa but I know some people do.

Yes I know But like to have my passport save.

And not in the post.

And it's a nice drive from samui to Ranong the Myanamar island is great to for a day trip to. It's where all the rich Thais go gambling in the big casino. The complex is unbelievable

You could post your passport to London with the form and fee and have your passport and visa posted back to you too. You don't have to go personally.

They brought the rule in supposedly to curtail people living here on Tourist visa and visa exempt stamps. If you come by land, air or sea without a visa you get the same 30 day visa exemption stamp.

It's classed as a land crossing.

But I've been reading people flying out and back.

If technically it's not a land crossing it could save people time and money.

You can stay around 6 months with just three 30 day visa exempt stamps and three extensions at Immigration

I suppose they class it as land/sea (no flight, anyway) entry, so the rule of max 2 entries per calendar year should be valid

Do they class that as a land crossing.

Cos you have to get a ferry to

I normally go to the Thai embassy in London and get a 60 day visa and a 30 day stamp in Thailand.

But don't fancy going up to London twice.

So I'm thinking get 30 days on a rival 30 day stamp in Thailand then go to Ranong Myanamar and come back in and get another 30 days stamp

Yes.

An agency in Samui organize private border runs to Ranong. Just need to pay 500 baht (or a really brand new 10 US dollars note) for Myanmar border fee.
