I never carry my passport around town! I have the original in a safe, and I carry a copy, along with a copy of the visa stamps! I also have another set of copies in a safe place. Good luck!

I can only say from my experience of living in Thailand, is the Thai's change the rules on a regular basis! I would never retire in Thailand because of the constant changes, but I would love to spend more time in Thailand! Yes, I don't have the information you are asking for!
