I have been to Thailand from Australia, many times, and always enjoy it. I live in Hatyai, and if I need to leave the country, I go to Penang, which I also enjoy! I usually travel on a tourist visa, and then extend as often as possible! It was suggested I get a multi entry visa next time, by my friend. Can you be good enough to tell me the advantages and disadvantages of a multi entry visa? Also the cost? I will probably stay a maximum of 6 months, and a minimum of 3 months! I am retired, so, I am okay financially, and will have health insurance! I will come in the cooler months, which I understand is January to May? Thanks in Advance. I am waiting to be over loaded with information?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A multiple entry tourist visa (METV) allows travelers to enter Thailand multiple times within a 6-month validity period, with a potential maximum stay of almost 9 months through visa runs. However, if you plan to stay for only 3 months, a single entry visa may suffice. The METV is advantageous for lengthy stays but may involve complexities for less frequent travelers. The cost varies, and it typically allows for 60 days plus a 30-day extension for each entry. Travelers noted that the cooler months in Thailand are from November to February, avoiding the extreme heat of March to May.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visa excempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

If visiting the nearest Thai Embassy website, you may find informations, that make it much easier to apply online.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

Then no need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

Avoid March, April and May, generally these are the hottest months with temps of 40°.

For cooler weather you want December to February.

On the weather front. I come to Thailand several times a year and if you are looking for the cooler months I would avoid March and April which is the middle of the summer 40+. I’d probably look at September to February which is just coming out of the rainy season and into the more bearable weather. November to February is my favourite time.

A multiple entry tourist visa is about maximizing time for 9 months. If you'll only go for 3 months there's no advantage over a single entry tourist visa.

The multiple entry tourist visa is valid to enter Thailand an unlimited number of times for 6 months from the day it is issued by the embassy, and with it you can get almost 9 months in Thailand.

Enter and receive 60 days + 30 day extension. Border bounce to neighboring country and get a new 60 days + 30 day extension. Just before the expiration date on the visa, bounce a final time and get 60 days + 30 day extension. This is almost 9 months. After this you probably will not be able to return as a tourist for at least 6 months or more, or you'll get grilled at the airport and possibly denied entry.

Excellent, thank you! I have done some research, but ended up confusing myself! Would you know the current cost?

each embassy sets their own price. Check the website of the Thai embassy in your home country, as you can only get the METV in your home country.
