It's a very normal 30 day extension, you can get once when being on a tourist visa.
Just if you do not expire on Jan 25th do not go tomorrow since it will be very very busy at IO due to people trying to get a COVID extension (you not eligible for that yet )
no fake news, no lie, just explaining general rule Immigration office follows.
First extend a tourist visa for 30 days, after that can get 60 day COVID extension. This is general rule from immigration office.
An officer could have decided to skip the normal 30 day tourist extension and give you right-away the 60 day COVID extension. Love to see your stamps to prove its done like this, since it's rare. Which IO this happened?
Btw. Pretty harsh to call me out like this whilst I just explain general rules.
Long answer: Because borders are closed so Multiple Year visa holders can not borderbounce hence are on COVID extensions. Plus many "tourist" like to stay longer but can not go Malaysia or Laos for new visa, because same border issue.
In case you on a 30 day free visa you can not apply for COVID extension. You can get a regular 30 day tourist extension before the day your current stamp expires.
If this then all eventually runs out you be eligible for a C-extension, if they postpone it after Jan 25 it is
