The branch you went to needed that.

This may or may not be the case at other branches.

The absolute best thing one can do, is walk around and ask the branches in the area one lives in, what documents they require.

I've never needed a tabien baan for that.

Lease, maybe. But I am pretty sure I just had a TM30 with me the last time.

Neither of those were a requirement when I opened a couple of new accounts in Kasikorn a couple of months back.

But did need my marriage certificate and a copy of my husbands ID.

My stay is based on marriage.

Alongside my passport, and a Residence Certificate from Immigration.

Mileage will vary on this. So I would just suggest walking around and asking the branches what they need to open an account.

Swedish passport makes you eligible for 60 day visa exemption.

But you will need a ticket out of Thailand within those 60 days. Does not need to be return ticket, just out of Thailand.
Marianne ********
Ticket out of Thailand or not will depend on what visa you are arriving with.

They will always give their formal stance on this.

I was in Vientiane, Laos for a regular Non-O application last week, they said 5-10 days and was quite adamant about it.

I got it at 5pm the day after I submitted my documentation and paid.

The idea is probably that if it does take a long time, people are prepared for it and won't get angry that they were told a shorter time.

If it doesn't take a long time, people will be pleasantly surprised because they were told it would be longer.

Bangkok might take a while, go there early and get in line before it even opens up.

Last time I was there for the 90 day report it would have taken the whole day. The queue was long and it moved at a snails pace.

But that was in March/April this year, things might have gotten better.

DTV does not stand for Domestic Tourist Visa.

DTV is Destination Thailand Visa and is a 5 year tourist visa granting you 180 days upon each arrival until the visa expires.

Your spouse and you must apply seperately.

Not sure if they see same sex marriages as eligible for the spouse path.

If not you can apply with your own course/freelance job on the DTV.

Getting a Non-O sorted before you come on your first trip will enable you to get your bank account sorted early so you don't have to rush it at the start of your retirement.

And getting a Non-O on your first visit lets you avoid going to Immigration during this visit. 🙂

Just travel around, find your pace, enjoy your life, no extensions needed.

And then in 6 months come back armed with a Thai bank account seasoned with the required amount of money for the upcoming yearly extensions, without having to stress to arrange it all out on arrival.
