1st time: Non-O marriage visa

Hi everyone. My husband and I recently got married in Thailand and we now have our Thai marriage certificate. He is currently on a visa exemption, which will expire on 9 April. We’re planning to apply for a Non-O marriage visa for him, but so far no Thai bank (Bang Na area) has allowed him to open a bank account because they told us he needs a Non-O visa first.

1. Does anyone have any suggestions in our situation? Are there any banks in Bangkok or nearby that might allow him to open an account?

2. We are also planning a short trip to Laos for a few days. When he re-enters Thailand, will he receive a 30-day or 60-day visa exemption stamp?

Thank you in advance for any advice 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on obtaining a Non-O marriage visa for her husband, who is currently on a visa exemption. They want to know how to open a bank account to apply for the visa and what type of visa exempt stamp he will receive upon re-entering Thailand after a trip to Laos. Responses include advice to apply for the Non-O visa in Laos, the necessary documentation required, and clarification that a bank account often requires a visa, suggesting that he apply for the Non-O visa first before opening an account.

When you are in Laos, just apply for non o visa(single 3 months) via the website

. The important is you have to prepare the document files well such as the current location(hotel you live in Laos), the marriage certificate, the bank statement letter that shows the money more than 400,000 baht and longer than 3 months continuously(foreigner bank in English can be ok).

The answer is simple

1. Forget that idea, one of the pre-requisite to get à Thaï bank account is to have a 3 months visa

2. Forget that one as well. Getting an additionnel 30 or 60 days only délais what you have to do, getting à 90 day non-o visa. Since you already planned going to Laos, get it therefrom tbe Thaï embassy, come back to Thailand and get your bank account.

I’ve been with my Thai husband for 8 years. I had opened a bank account way before we met. However, I tried opening an account with a different bank and they wouldn’t allow me to open one (On a Non O spousal visa) unless I had a work permit. Ridiculous. I eventually opened it with a new work permit. However, what would happen if I was a stay at home wife/mother?! Hardly a reason not to qualify for a bank account.

1. No. 2. No, he shouldn't. He needs to apply for 90 days Non O visa in Laos then enter Thailand with that visa then he can open a bank account in Thailand. Then follow the process to extend that to 1 year visa

Graham Seal is there any difference? Could you elaborate please. What I meant was to extend the 90 days visa obtained outside of Thailand to 1 year visa. This is not replacement but an extension.

He's going to need to go to a neighboring country and apply for a non-o at an embassy. Then when he is on a NonO, he can go to a bank and open a bank account to put the money in to season it.

We just did this and just finished our year extension immigration visit. In the next two weeks the year extension will be stamped in.

No one is going to give him a bank account on an exemption.

Do we have to show bank statement still if we apply for 90 days non-O visa from Laos? He doesn’t have enough amount.

Jidapa Puk Meeboon he has to show at 3 months of 40k baht equivalent income. The 90 day is easier to get than the final 1 year.

No thai bank will allow him to open a bank account on a tourist stamp. During your trip to Laos go and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage and when you return to Thailand he will be able to open a bank account on that visa but he will also need a residence certificate from immigration and a Thai SIM registered against his passport

Yes, but he can use a bank account from anywhere as long it has the equivalent amount in the currency of the account
