The rates are determined by multi national banks and government policies.

There is nothing you can do about those rates

So stop stressing

Just go travel

If your phone uses a removable SIM card

Just buy a Thai SIM with unlimited data plan

(Will include some minutes of making calls anywhere IN Thailand)

Change out your home phone SIM = you are set to go,

What I did = Bought an inexpensive Smart Phone IN Thailand and installed a SIM.

Cheap and easy

If your Home country phone has WIFI calling ability you then have your home phone to make calls back home as long as your connect itvto a WIFI source

The flight fare is the same

But with 3rd party you really have little hope if help
