TLDR : Answer Summary
ATMs in Thailand typically charge a fee of 220 baht for foreign card withdrawals, regardless of the ATM network. Krungsri ATMs allow withdrawals of up to 30,000 baht in a single transaction, while many others limit it to 20,000 or 25,000 baht. Using a local bank account can avoid these fees, and exchanging cash at dedicated kiosks might offer better rates, especially if you choose reputable services like SuperRich or Vasu in Bangkok. However, ATMs provide convenience, and you should always decline the currency conversion option to save costs. Users are advised to do thorough research on exchange rates and be cautious of damaged notes at exchange counters.

Avoid withdrawing using the Conversion = it’s a rip off.

Just do the withdrawal Without that feature

Maybe you know a person here with a Thai bank account. You can transfer money when you need to. I use Wize, and most of the time the transfer takes 7 seconds. Sometimes a day, but it would save you money.

it's about trusting a Thai with your money. Been cheated a few times so I'd rather pay the 300 baht fee on wise after your free allowance

@Vinay *******
It does not have to be a Thai. But it is about trusting someone for the time it takes to make the transfer.

Western Union or cash but if you have to use and ATM, 220 baht charge every ATM. Krungsri probably best rate and amount (depending on your banks max daily withdrawal amount).

@Lee ****
all the same. For ฿5k you can get a thai account and not worry

@Phil *****
wonder why I didn’t have to pay anything to open my account at Bangkok Bank in Phichit.

@Wayne *******
me too in Bangkok and Pak Chong but rules change.

Use a card that doesn't charge a fee like Starling, Monsa and Chase, then go inside the Krungsi bank with your passport to withdraw instead of using the ATM.

You will get the overseas bank rate not the Thai bank rate and not have to pay the ATM fee.

starling bank do not charge for foreign withdrawals.

@Kim ********
absolutely no kidding Sherlock. Thats why I'm telling them get a thai bank account. Oh have mine 13 years when they were easy to get.

Tell the OP not me
Kim *********
@Phil *****
you said bubble burst because of a Thai baht fee and that was your comment to his remark that there is no fee from his bank so your remark bubble burst is wrong. Why would I tell that to the OP? More clear now for you?
Phil ******
@Kim ********
referring to MICHAELS POST. STARLING CARD doesn't attact ฿200 which is wring.

So advise the OP not me
Michael **********
@Phil *****
yes i know but you dont get a further charge from your bank. Barclays charge for withrawals on top of the 220 bahts

@Michael *********
220 still charged. Get a thai account then no charge

Exchange shops are usually cheaper if you choose the right ones, superrich or Vasu of in Bangkok. Though they are quite picky with notes. Slightest damage gets rejected.

But many exchange shops have horrid rates as well, so do your research based on your location. And avoid exchange more than absolutely necessary at airports.

Before I moved here I brought fresh Eur bills.

Krungsri yellow atms allow up to 30.000 but If you use your card at the atm there is a 220 baht fee every time you use a foreign card. Add to that your card costs and it adds up.

I advise you to take cash, but exchange it in Thailand for Thai baht.

You get a very good (probably the best rate at the airport.

But only in the basement. It’s a 8% difference with upstairs. Look here for directions.

Like, share and follow for more Thailand tips.

All ATMs charge the same 220 baht fee for foreign card withdrawal.

Krungsri ATMs allow you to withdraw up to 30 bills at a time, so the maximum is 30,000 baht. Many others allow 20 or 25 at most. Make sure you reject the ATM currency conversion.

nearly every attempt to make a withdrawal lately, if I don't accept the conversion, it gets rejected. Any machine you know is more accepting?
