thanks, yes, I don't want to deal with the fallout of being rejected. Buying a bus ticket and having some cash on hand is a small price to pay. Thanks for the help!
I've been out of the country since Feb. I have been spoken to by the officer at 11pm one night late last year when I had been here for a few straight months. I don't think my passport will be flagged for any particular reason (maybe being from Africa) but I much prefer peace of mind.
Sorry Garrett. Didn't mean to cause a stir. I have seen a few people mention being stopped in the other Thai Visa advice group this week. I have been questioned at immigration about my visits before. I'm from Africa and I have seen people from my country specifically get turned away (or kept in detention until they could organise where to go next).
I've done visa exemptions on and off for two years, but just because people in the early 2000s could come and go with impunity doesn't mean it's always going to be like that. The reports, including this one, has me worried. I am not cancelling tickets, just noticing more of these than last year.
So, before I come I will check again, and yes, make sure I have all the paperwork and the cash. Given that, it is still possible and has happened, that people get turned away despite having all the documentation because the officer had an issue with them. Usually with how frequently they visit Thailand.
I am heading back to the land of smiles in a few weeks. My intention is to get going with Iglu and get the working permit so I can stay without worrying about visas and border runs but I plan to enter with tourist visa. All these reports are starting to get me a little worried.
Ok, so advertising done in response to a request is ok, but not main posts. I dont mind either way. I'm just a memeber. Just seems easier to have a simple rule than needing to evaluate each post.
I think we missed each other. If someone is responding to a request for recommendations that doesn't strike me as a type of advert - thats a recommendation.
My concern was just a "who watches the watchmen" scenario. It's simpler to bad all adverts, than to wonder whether your value judgement in terms of what is a good advert is similar to mine. If it's just banned I know to go look for adverts elsewhere if I want them.
I don't have a horse in the race, just seems unnecessary.
Why not just blanket ban it. If its at the descretion of admins, aren't we starting down the same path the other group went, "some ads good, some ads bad"? There's plenty of places to find adverts. A simple "no ads" takes away all the work.
yeah, digital expat is a better term for ling term stay. Our culture is evolving faster than our language so were still figuring out what to call things.
