Is it normal to not receive an exit stamp when leaving Thailand?

when you scan there system sees it and if for example you have overstayed the gate won't open.this type of system has been in the UK and many countries for a few years now,also at Singapore airport ,it's all part of cutting back on staff and human contact ,scan and computer system handles it all.
