TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses finding an agent in Hua Hin for obtaining a motorbike driving license, specifically recommending Praew Praewpan for her reliability and comprehensive service. Several comments express satisfaction with her assistance, emphasizing the importance of having proper documentation, such as an IDP with a motorcycle endorsement. However, caution is advised due to potential scams associated with agents who promise licenses without proper procedures. Some users suggest alternatives like training courses and highlight the legal complexities surrounding driving licenses in Thailand.

If you live here on a long term visa and have a valid licence from your own country with an IDP, itβs so easy to do for yourself.

You do not need a dl in thailand

Recently there was a guy who got conned and paid 60k for getting a DL which he never rcvd. All those who claims to get ur DL without being present at the authority. BEWARE
thanks Jimmy ,no way would I send anyone money or use an agent not recommended by others ππ½I think anyone who paid 60 k is definitely some kind of fool ππ½
but you get a legal licence πthe agent recommended takes you to do the test ,so you actually do the test ,let's face it anyway ,in every single one of our countries and our life's there's corruption ,simple as that ,were humans ππ½
itβs your problem after an accident, what you think Thai police is on your side??? They can figure out that itβs not legal ! But just do how you want and pay for it! I did by myself , just need the document from immigration thatβs it! I think I not even payed 400 baht ! All up to you !
exactly Fra,I've lived in Asia over 20 yrs,14 yrs in Cambodia so aware of the corruption ,thanks for your advice about doing it myself ,that's all that was needed πππ½
is the best agent. You don't pay her until your license is in your hand. She will meet you at license office to help with paperwork, translate instructions for your eye and reaction tests. 100% legit. Make sure you have your motorcycle endorsement on your IDP if you want motorbike license. If not, go take a course. Thailand IS NOT the place to learn on vacation.
why make it so difficult, do it by yourself for a view 100 bahts instead of paying

Yes correct ,that's why I want to get a Thai licence so I'm covered on my health insurance ,as there's confusion around IDP as it shows I'm able to drive motorbikes (section A-see below photo),so it's a licence that I can show in other countries for a motorbike ,but insurance requires a real motorbike licence ,either from your home country or the country your driving in ,hence I'm trying the get a Thai licence ππ½π
It looks like whoever issued it didn't understand what they were stamping. Basically the UDP is just the official translation of your home country license and should only have the endorsements stamped for which you are legally allowed to ride/drive in your home country. I suspect there will be even more errors now the issue of IDPs in the UK has gone from the post office to the corner shop.
I've lived in Asia for the last 20 yrs and always had a IDP,alongside local driving licences, and it's always had all sections stamped ,I think you're supposed to then show your real country Driving licence which then shows the vehicles your passed to drive .IDP has worked showing police stops for years ,but it doesn't work with an insurance claim ,as they then check your licences to show if your trained to drive the vehicle you are driving.so many people have been ok over the years showing IDPs if stopped by the police ,but in the event of an accident and further police investigation or insurance claim there not actually covered .
Get an IDL from your post office before you come only about Β£5 it's good for a few months then if your staying for good you can easily transfer that to a 2 year Thai license at the transport office.
If you already have a license and an IDP you should be able to transfer this to an equivalent Thai licence. If you don't suggest you go to Honda Big Wing in Hua Hin and ask if Honda have a training course in Hua Hin. They do in several big cities and at the end you get to apply for your license. These adverts saying an agent can get you a licence without doing anything are a scam.
Just for your information, given that you are offering advice to people. There is no such thing as an IDL, (International Driving Licence). itβs a called an IDP (International Driving Permit). And legally is only valid if you also produce your country of origin driving licence.
I've had car and bike licence in Cambodia and Indonesia ,both with no tests and backhanded ,but with valid ,I would rather do it correctly here in Thailand ,just a choice of do myself or use the recommended agent in here in Hua hin as she is genuine ,not taking money only ππ½
Depends how long you want to stay in Thailand I think the IDL is valid here for quite a while, to be honest nobody looks at the date anyway, but if you want to transfer it to a Thai license it needs to be valid.
I've always used IDP in Thailand ,but it's not valid for my insurance if I have a accident ,as I have never done a bike test in the UK ,so best to get the Thai licence and then it's ok with my insurance company for cover ππ½
How can you get an IDP for a motorcycle if you don't have a motorbike licence in the UK it's not possible. You may have an IDP with the car endorsement on it but that's not an IDP for a motorcycle.
The transport office in Pranburi is ideal, it's even easier if you have a Thai speaker with you, with the IDL you won't have to sit and watch the film on how to ride or drive !!!
You've clearly not seen the adds where you send money and never hear from them again. Abd I've never heard ofcanyone getting a real licence by paying an agent money as you need to appear in person.
and I was extremely satisfied. Excellent service and fair price. You pay when you get the license in hand. Her husband is an expat and went above and beyond by taking the time to show me around as I was new in the area. I vouch for her service and both are super nice people :)
