What are the updates on the TM6 form and its relation to the ETA for entry into Thailand?

I'm in Thailand and have just read that from May 1st a TM6 form instead of the "not in force yet "ETA will be required prior to arrival....anybody else heard of this ?...do the Thais know what on earth is going on. ?
