TLDR : Answer Summary
Independently doing a visa run from Hua Hin to Ranong is possible, but requires planning. Travelers can arrange a boat trip from the pier near the immigration office in Ranong, where local agents will assist. The boat trip, including guides, costs around 1,000 THB, while full-day tours from Hua Hin can cost about 5,300-6,000 THB. It's important to have 10,000 THB, proof of flight out of Thailand, and accommodation details; otherwise, local agents may offer to bypass these for an extra fee. The Ranong/Kawthoung border crossing is currently open to foreigners, unlike other borders with Myanmar. A travel agent is recommended for convenience.

Just a quick question, what currency is used doing this border run?

You need B10k, confirmed flight out of thailand and proof of accommodation, or you can pay the local spivs 3k to circumvent these requirements they will be lined up waiting for you on arrival……or you can use a travel agent who will organize transport and all of the above for a fee…………I went through this BS 2 months ago, thankfully I could make a plan and didnt get scalped……

@Michael ******
so looks like the agent and tour from Hua Hin for 5300 bht day trip is probably best 🙏🏽

Yip, I went thinking it would be straightforward, but it’s a circus and nobody warned me, luckily I had a flight already planned, and a local account so I could draw cash - Booking.com had a raft of rooms for B500 in Ranong, so they know about the ruse ……as it turned out after all the hassle and running around I needed a shower and Nap before the drive back to Phuket…..so the room turned out to be handy…..the boat trip itself including guide is B1000 and a tip for the guide on the Burma side is B100 so your package will cover all that stuff

But is not closed the checking point in Myanmar?

@Klaus *****
It's the only border with Myanmar that's available to foreigners. Every other one is closed to foreigners.

Easy, go to pier near immigration office, someone will ask you what you need and arrange boat ... Boatman will care about everything, copies on thai side, copies on Myanmar side etc

For about 5-6k you can take a nice shared van for the day. All inclusive, guided, etc. visa place in front of Condochain. They go at least once a week. Easy peasy.

Thanks Tony ,that is a good option ,I do like to do things independent for the experience ,but will keep that advice as an option 🙏🏽

Yes, it's possible to do it yourself. But you will still have to find and pay for the boat trip across. Probably won't have much issue with that as there should be some around aware of why you are there and ready to assist.
