This ain't the US, just living in Thailand, even for decades, will not get you one inch closer to thai citizenship. I think a farang monk got it last year after many years of residence/monkhood, and probably sponsored by the religious authorities.
to get the tourist visa, you will need to join a round trip ticket to the other requirements. the return can be dated 90 days after your 1st flight arrival (last I looked, it was so).
With a tourist visa, you need not show anything to the airlines, since the thai embassy/consulate, ie. thai auhtorities has given you the go. The airlines ask only visa exempt people because for them, the airline is the one giving the go at boarding time. It's their responsibility.
Depending when you leave, you may be able to benefit from the new rules of 60 days entering as a visa exempt national, not 30 anymore. It will happen but when is the question.
they actually admitted that some in the govnmt said June 1st when they had no authority to do so. Watch thai news, full of officials and uniforms who go yak yak crazy in front of a mike. Then call their family they will be on TV, I suppose.
I see nothing about foreigners who have residency or thai spouse in the travel advisory document posted here/below by Ellie. Do you have the link to the document that specifies they can? thanks.
Peopleoften re-write their post again and again, for fear they will be nitpicked about their syntax and choice of words. not the subject itself. to no avail, it seems! ;-)
Why not joke about the wording and answer about the situation, or double guess he asks about ways to grease difficulties, without being too direct, and answer this page will not condone nor advise corrupting immigration officers.
