Hi, I have been trying to get a 60 day tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Madrid and I have shown them proof of tickets to BKK and onward tickets out of Thailand to Lao not more than 60 days later, I have also shown them a reservation in BKK for 1 night but now they want to see Hotel bookings up until the point I leave for Lao, How can you possibly do this if you plan to travel around and visit different places? Is there a way around this? TIA :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses an individual's experience obtaining a 60-day tourist visa from the Thai Embassy in Madrid, which requires proof of hotel bookings throughout the stay in Thailand. Comments suggest strategies such as using hotel bookings with free cancellation options (e.g., through Agoda), making temporary reservations, or considering a visa exemption for quicker entry into Thailand without extensive accommodation proof.

Hi Tom, do you mind if I ask what passport you hold. I was looking at going to Madrid to the Thai embassy, as a Canadian that can't get the police record check or the medical letter. So following your post to see how you make out.

Book places with free cancellation and just cancel before the deadline, of course after you get the visa

Depending when you leave, you may be able to benefit from the new rules of 60 days entering as a visa exempt national, not 30 anymore. It will happen but when is the question.

I had the same exact situation applying for the tourist visa from the US. I used Agoda and just booked hotels for the dates required. You can book without payment so once you get your visa you can cancel all the reservations you won’t use.

Don't be surprised when the embassy wants a 'Paid for receipt' and not simply a booking without payment

Make bookings on Agoda that can be cancelled

Use refundable bookings.

Find a booking on Agoda that you don’t need to pay upfront. Print it out and get the visa, then cancel it.

Quite strict to be an embassy in Europe. Normally the first nights or a week is sufficient. But they have the right on their side, and it’s no other way around a tourist visa than already mentioned.

Another “short cut” could be to just skip the tourist visa. Do a 30 days visa exemption and a 30 days local extension at your immigration in Thailand. You’ll need a cheap onward ticket out of Thailand within 30 days in case your airline will ask for it, but you won’t get any questions regarding accommodation unless you should get pulled aside by the immigration in Thailand for some other reason regarding your travel patterns.

yep ive backed out of doing the 60 visa in nz and doing the 30 day on arival with two nights booked then do the extensions and pay the flight change fee much simpler and hopeing maybe a fly out and in and get the new 60 on arivel after my first month 🙏

I'm starting to think that's the easiest way, hardly surprising not many apply for them but I've paid for it now so it's s#it or bust so I'll give it a go with bookings that can be cancelled if I can get my head around it 🙂

Visa excempt is more expensive,

More time consuming,

And can stay up to 90 days on tourist visa , wirhout leaving Thailand.

That’s why 60 days tourist visa (+ 30 days extension possibel) is the better option

As said, visa exemption and extension was a backup here regarding proof of 60 days accommodation for a tourist visa.

Yeah, give it a try. Tourist visa is cheapest and most convenient if you can manage.

How can I upload 2 or 3 different bookings on the visa form? it lets you upload 1 and if you try another it replaces the first one.

@Tom *******
Go online to combine various files as one PDF

Sorry I’m not quite sure. I guess you’ve got an email regarding this also so you could try to answer and attach the bookings.

Use copy of bookings you can cancel.

You meet the embassy's requirements or you don't get a visa. Each embassy gets to make their own rules.

Go onto a website like Agoda and find a hotel that has free cancellation. Then make a couple of bookings to cover the entire time from arrival until the ticket to Laos. Once you receive the visa, cancel your bookings.
