Is it possible to apply for a 60 day tourist visa while in Thailand?

I intend to travel to Vietnam for 2 weeks mid-July and then return to Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa.

Can I prepare it before I leave Thailand or will I have to get it while in Vietnam? If so, any ideas on how long it will take to process?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot apply for a 60-day tourist visa while in Thailand; applications must be made outside the country, typically at a Thai embassy or consulate in another country, such as Vietnam. It's important to check the specific requirements and processing times of the embassy you plan to visit, as appointments may be needed and certain documentation, like proof of hotel bookings and exit tickets, will be required.

Cannot. You have to do it while in Vietnam, at the local Thai embassy.

Start out 60 days in Thailand, and then go to Vietnam, and come back to Thailand visa excempt.

Or start out by going to Vietnam, then go Thailand.

With tourist visa you can stay up to 60 + 30 days with touristvisa applyed for from home, the visa is valid for entering Thailand up to 90 days from the date it is granted.

I came here mid-April on a 60 day tourist visa and have just gotten a 30 day extension, which will expire mid-July.

My plan is to go to Vietnam for two weeks at that time and then follow the same pattern again, 60 day tourist plus 30 day extension, before returning to Australia mid-October.

My main question was if it was possible to get a 60 day tourist visa before going to Vietnam. Apparently not.

If you came from you homecountry, you could have applied for the touristvisa from home, you would get it 1-2 weeks before departure, and it is valid 90 days for entering Thailand.

Put the question up again after 1. juli, since there may be a new possibility, since it is ROUMERED that visa excempt will change to 60 days, but it is not decided by parlament yet.

you have a problem with english? He came with a tourist visa in april, added an extension, and now MUST leave Thailand.

Robert, yes, a tourist visa cannot be obtained while in Thailand. I read here you need to make the appointment online now with thai embassies abroad.

Nothing in the original post, said anything about being in Thailand since april.

Yes, that 60 day free visa would be ideal, but it all depends on the timing, if at all.... ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿ‘

You cannot apply for a tourist visa while you are already in Thailand.

If you want to apply for one in SE Asia, then you would need to look at the website of the Thai embassy or consulate you want to use and see if they require an appointment. You would also look at their requirements as well as their processing time (how many days it will take).

If it requires an appointment then you would need to book one. And then make sure you can meet the requirements. Some of them require things like a fully paid hotel booking for your entire stay. And all of them will require proof of a ticket out of Thailand within 60 days.

Thanks for that. I'll look into applying while in Vietnam.
