TLDR : Answer Summary
The proposed 60-day visa exemption for Thailand is a topic of debate among expats, with no confirmed start date. Although rumors suggest it could start on 1st September, many commenters stress that nothing is official until published in the Royal Gazette. Previous announcements have led to confusion, with some stating it might occur in late June or early July, while others emphasize the uncertainty surrounding any timelines.

Yeah it's thailand nothing moves fast just like the current government election promise to change and close the loophole in Thailand's policy to the sale of marajuana these shops or market places sell this sht out number bars I see that election announcement has changed things NOT don't hold your breath for change
most of what I have seen is foreigners buying and leaving with the goods and smoking in back laneways but the smell of that sht is horrendous talking to locals I know they are not impressed
with the situation and majority of shops are foreign owned in some capacity
if you grease the palms of those in authority than a blind eye is no surprise it's the thai way
Not until it’s published in the royal gazette. Full stop

Who say that? We had an announcement two weeks back but it had a very different ETA.

It starts when it starts. No one knows when it will start. Once the government passes it and it's published in the Royal Gazette. Current rumors are end of June or early July, but it might never happen.
People also said it would happen on June 1st and then it didn't.
there is no 60 day visa exempt at the moment. The proposal is to increase from 30 to 60 days and increase the number of countries that can enter Thailand without a visa (visa exempt)
it is displayed on every embassy website that I have checked. It will definitely happen.
I think they said june 1 but it was probably a typo, they probably meant july 1 since it was approved on may 29. Makes more sense that it would take a month to finish the legalities instead of two days
they actually admitted that some in the govnmt said June 1st when they had no authority to do so. Watch thai news, full of officials and uniforms who go yak yak crazy in front of a mike. Then call their family they will be on TV, I suppose.
also, it was clear that june 1 was impossible, it was probably a typo or something. That doesn’t change anything, once cabinet passes it, it will happen… I would agree maybe that it won’t happen to the letter or there will be ridiculous requirements for this visa.
You don't know much about Thailand if you think that. There have been more times than I can count in the past that government agencies have come out with huge initiatives that have been well published in the media, and then they're never heard about again.
the MFA doesn't get to decide. The embassies don't get to decide. The government does. And the government also doesn't get to unilaterally make decisions. There are multiple factors and multiple stakeholders. There's a reason there's no date attached to it now. They have no idea if or when it will start.
I don’t think you understand how a government works, of course the cabinet is not the entire government, but they pass and abolish laws, majors, governors, they are the ones with little say on laws.
I am aware the embassy doesn’t decide, if they posted it on the website it is for sure not because the embassy is playing, it is an order from the Government. Embassies only represent the government, they follow instructions. They have almost no autonomy.
I don’t think anyone has any example of the cabinet passing a vote on something and then not happening, remember not the media saying, the cabinet actually voting on something and passing it.
no, the cabinet decides, they already did. The vote passed. Time will tell, but in my only 6 years in the country, every single time the cabinet voted and approved something, it came to pass within a month or two. Remember this is no longer the dictatorship it used to be. Arbitrary decisions no linger take place. If the cabinet approves, it will happen sooner or later.
You are right... but... the PRD announced it and then they changed it quickly... that's how it works here. And if it really should start now at 1st of August, then you can call yourself lucky if it's published in the Royal Gazette 2 days before... 😁
