Good morning. I am reading that Thailand has closed the borders to all foreigners. I am a US citizen currently stuck in Saudi Arabia, but once they open borders here I would like to return to Thailand with my wife and kids. Just curious if anyone has heard anything concrete if they are making exceptions for some foreigners who call Thailand home. I have a Non-O based on marriage and a work permit as well. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Due to the current state of emergency in Thailand, entry for foreigners is highly restricted. However, exceptions are made for foreigners with valid work permits and Thai spouses. As a US citizen with a Non-O visa based on marriage and a work permit, it is possible for you to return to Thailand once the borders reopen, provided you meet health and insurance requirements.

There are rules to get into Thailand, rules are set by:

Thai Government

IATA International Aviation Travel Authorisation

CAAT, Commercial Aviation Authority Thailand

AoT Airports of Thailand

Airline Companies with their own precautions.

If you like to fly into Thailand, check with your airline company as they have the updates from all off the above.

Thailand’s government has declared a state of emergency from March 26 to April 30. Among the provisions of the state of emergency will be new travel restrictions that will make it harder for foreigners to enter the country.

As it now stands, foreigners can enter the country if they:

Have residency and/or Thai spouse

Have a work permit

Are a diplomat

According to queries to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Visas for tourists and visitors will mostly be suspended except for extraordinary circumstances. (e.g. death of a relative in the country).

These new restrictions will be in place until April 30.

I see nothing about foreigners who have residency or thai spouse in the travel advisory document posted here/below by Ellie. Do you have the link to the document that specifies they can? thanks.

As far as i know if you have a non o based on marriage to a Thai national and a work permit, there is no problems for you coming back

There are no 'exceptions to the entry rules

Unless you hold a valid work permit <- meaning you legally WORK here in thailand, OR hold permanent resident status (meaning you don't NEED a visa to be here) you can't get in right now.

So as i see you Do hold a work permit, meet the health requirements and the insurance requirements and you can get in

You need a lab test showing negative COVID. Not just “a doctors letter”
