I did that a few years back with no problem. Just make sure the end balence is the same as shown on the bank letter. The first time I made the mistake of using my ATM card during the 7 days my bank required to provide 12 months of statements.

Thanks, Yes the passport office can be a real pain. I've heard of reports of 12-16 weeks!

The biggest problem seems to be the lack of notice. Many travelers will already be on their way and may have left their certificates at home. Not wise but will cause bedlam at airports
